quote:
With all the smart assed replies from the self righteous side, it makes me wonder, just how many of THEM lived with someone, or at least had sex before they were married.
What a crock !
During the early days of our country a very high percent of weddings were of young women who were pregnant.
Get off your high horses.
As far as there being a study, I gotta disagree with TSC . If used properly, several things could come from it, mainly the fact that we have ceased to teach sex education in the schools, and tried to push the puritan ethic of abstinence as the only option. Abstinence is not a bad thing, don't take that wrong, but kids are gonna do "it", that's just life, and to keep up with statistics could help show the fallacy of this stupid "education" course that has been going on.
You can bet that although many women (such as those who have stated on here) are responsible and make a living , however difficult , for themselves and their children. On the other hand it stands to reason that more un-wed mothers means more children on welfare and mothers on WIC, so more tax dollars needed.
At one time, a governor in Arkansas passed a state law that said before the state would pay any woman and child welfare, she must name the daddy. The state then would garnish the daddy's pay for the child support if they could catch him working. Memphis filled up real quick with runaway dads
I disagree with some of what you wrote excelman. That being the cease of sex education in schools. It was never taught in schools until the 60s. Our population has increased and so with the numbers of pregnancies.
You are right about so many marriages due to pregnancies years ago. The boys were MADE to marry the girls by their own families as much as the girls. It was looked at differently years ago. THAT is the problem, how people, families LOOK at unmarried pregnancy.
Sex is nothing new, kids are going to do it. My heavens you know if they did it when there were practically no means of birth control kinda speaks for the subject itself.
No longer is the day when a girl fears she is going to be shunned, treated like an outcast to have a baby out of wedlock,no longer is the day when a young man fears an old fashioned a&* beating by his dad or the girls dad for getting his gf pregnant. Nowadays parents just sort of take it in tow, lets go get you signed up for this and for that,,oh dear,,it could be worse kind of attitudes. And the boys, well their parents mostly think of very little on the subject peroid. Kids today need to be taught there are concequences for their actions as they once were,to include the responsibilities of bringing another person into the world.
Birth control is the easiest thing around for young people to get their hands on, heck condoms have full displays even in grocery stores!
