It appears , and I'm personally hopeful, that gasohol (or is it Busholine?) may be phased out, and once again, we can have real gasoline that does not damage lawnmowers, outboard motors, cars and anything else we have that was not made for that crap.

seeweed,

I hate the stuff as well, but don't blame it entirely on Bush.  That movement was led by two groups.  Namely the enviromentalists who insisted that that it would save humanity and the other group was headed by those who had their handout for farm subsidies. The stuff will ruin most mowers and small engines since the alcohol attacks the fuel tubing and suction bladders used to prime the engines.  It decreases your mileage so in reality you end up burning just as much gasloine to go the same distance.  It was not a well thought out plan if you ask me.

Tey, I tend to think it was a handout to the agriculture lobby, and big agri.

The environmental lobby likes it because it can help with the smog in big cities.

It may be not such a bad thing for California in the Summertime, but we don't need it here.

Yes, like a lot, it was not thought out at all IMHO.

Even in newer cars or small engines that have ethanol resistant parts, alcohol by it's nature , collects water, and if you let anything sit up for a little while , you wind up with water in the bottom of you gas tank.

Even on my new Mercury , 4cycle outboard, they told me to ALWAYS put Stable in the gas , and that is primarily because of the water in the gas problem.,

I still can't understand why it was mandated by the bunch that did it - aren't they supposed to be the "free market" bunch ?

Put it in some gas, put some regular gasoline in the pump next to it, and just let us decide.

First of all, gasohol and goobermint endorsed green energy scams have been around for a long time: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=44473

That said, there is actually a good use for ethanol in gas, if you live in a large city. Ethanol is probably the safest oxygenated fuel additive which is used to reduce particulates and smog. The other common additive, MBTE, has some environmental issues.

They are supposed to be the "free market" bunch. However, it further proves my point that the difference between repubs and dems simply isn't as great as some would like to think it is. We have not had true free market capitalism in this country in many years.

No, my son.  You will never receive 100% gasoline again.

Before it's over, you'll only receive 85% gasoline.  Unfortunately, cars, boats and other gas powered vehicles are not engineered to take that mixture.

But don't get mad when you realize how much more 90/10 is costing you than 100% gasoline.  And your price of beef, chicken and other food stuffs are much more expensive because of the doubling prices of corn used to make that ethanol used in 90/10 gasoline.

Remember this ethanol fiasco next time you go to the voting polls.  It's all political--not ecological.  The corn belt thanks you.
