The Tea Party and the NAACP both have members who are fools. No, not every member of the Tea Party says or does things that are racist just like not every member of the NAACP does or says something that is racist.

Clearly any sensible person can pick thinks out of Tea Party comments that encourage racism or separation. The same can be said some NAACP comments.

Only a fool would blame the entire group based on the actions of a few. Right now the leaders of both look real stupid.
To be fair, it could be that Shirley Sherrod behaved like a lot of white folks in a crowd of haters; she told an exaggerated story to fit in with the group.

quote:
The wife of the farmer who was the subject of Sherrod's story told FoxNews.com on Tuesday that the administration should not have forced out Sherrod, who actually helped the couple save their farm.

"She'll always be my friend," Eloise Spooner said. She said the incident Sherrod was referring to happened more than two decades ago and that she and her husband Roger worked together closely to keep the farm out of foreclosure.

"I don't think they gave her a chance to tell really what happened," Eloise Spooner said. "I don't think they'll find anybody that can fill the job any better than she did. That's my opinion.

Now for the rest of the story about the firing of Sherrod. It appears that she and her husband were winners in a lawsuit against the USDA.

quote:
But it's not the first time Sherrod faced off against the federal government. Days before she was appointed to the USDA post last year, her group reportedly won a $13 million settlement in a longstanding discrimination suit against the USDA known commonly as the Pigford case.

The Rural Development Leadership Network announced last summer that New Communities Inc. -- a group Sherrod formed with husband Charles, who is a civil rights activist, and with other black farmers -- had reached the agreement. The RDLN said the USDA had "refused" to offer new loans or restructure old loans to members of New Communities, leading to the discrimination claim.

The announcement said that in addition to the $13 million to New Communities, Shirley and Charles Sherrod would each get $150,000 for "pain and suffering."

A USDA official told FoxNews.com on Tuesday that the settlement had "nothing to do with" Sherrod's hiring last year -- likewise, the official said her resignation was only the result of her comments in the video.

"This is all about her comments," the official said.

Sherrod's settlement was a drop in the bucket in terms of the money the federal government has paid out in Pigford claims to other black farmers over the years. The suit claimed the USDA racially discriminated against black farmers by not giving them fair treatment when they applied for loans or assistance. The case was first settled in 1999, resulting to date in more than $1 billion in compensation payments from the federal government.

Wonder why anyone would think she is racist?

She invited the Federation of Southern Cooperatives to sponsor her in the RDLN program, earned her master's degree with a thesis that continues to provide a blueprint for her ongoing work with black farmers and others

We hear talk of ONE white family...wonder IF there are any others?
Just saw a report on NBC that says this was taken out of context. It is an edited report. They did an interview with the white family involved and they have nothing but praise for the lady. Mrs. Sherrod says she initially withheld certain information in the beginning but realized it was not right, and di the right thing. The white people say that if it weren't for her they would have lost the farm.

It seems as if you always have a problem with the word black.

Are the Queens of two Historically Black University's, that are white racist too?

Exaggerated story or not -- she was proud of the power over that white man and you could see it in her posture, her smirk and her tone of voice. She was proud of herself. If she's still telling this story after all these years, that was a major important self-empowering moment for her.

You can't use the word white without it being racist. What makes black different?
Says who?

White, being white, ect is not a problem, neither is black.

The problem is when one only allows whites or only allows blacks. It then become a problem with me.

From my research it sure seems as if the couple that were assisted didn't think she was racist.

You see from the title and reading the first post one would think the NAACP is a racist organization. I don't always agree with the group, but there is not another group in this country that has done more overall for positivity and harmony when it comes to race and racism. Is the NAACP the same as it was years ago? Of course not, the problems are not exactly the same either.

What? Come on? Race and harmony? That's creative writing at its best. I have no problem with them but I don't see harmony as a goal.

well yea, their farm was saved, remember from Mrs. Sherrod's own words, she took them to one of their own (a white lawyer) to handle the problem. also from her own words, she didn't use the power she had, she just knew they had been sent to her to make sure she was doing the right thing, so basically she covered the 'ol pooper by handing them off to one of their own...

I didn't think you would want to talk about that racist organization for the coloreds. Wink

Why talk when you seem to know everything?

The group has fought for all people of all colors. Yes this group that you call racist, that has its beginnings with some white people.

So since you call the NAACP racist, then what do you call the woman pictured above? Colored Lover (putting it somewhat nicely) Big Grin

Thing the NAACP stood up for and against:

Women's suffrage, segregation and racial discrimination in housing, equal education, equal employment, voting and transportation. Need I go further.

Get on a plane now and look at how many older ladies that are your attendants. It didn't use to be that way.
In the interest of objectivity, let's "Google" this...
NAACP- National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. BING! A hit.
NAAWP- National Association for the Advancement of White People. ERROR-NOT FOUND.
OK...Let's try something else...
BET- Black Educational Television. BING! A hit.
WET- White Educational Television. ERROR-NOT FOUND.
All is not lost, however...
Let's do a United Negroe College Fund...HIT!
United Caucasian College Fund. ERROR-NOT FOUND
Not getting anywhere here...let's try!
Miss Black America Pageant, HIT!
Miss White America Pageant. ERROR-NOT FOUND.
Hmmm.......

Why was the Miss Black America Pageant founded - for years blacks were not allowed in the Miss America Pageant. From 1921 until 1970 non white were barred ( Rule Number 7). It was not until the '40's that women were not required to prove there heritage. The MBAP was founded in '68, two years before the race rule was dropped. So do you really have to ask why there is a separate pageant?

Why was the UNCF founded - was started in '44 to help send black to HBCU's since they were not allowed in 99% of "white" colleges (at the time). So do you really have to ask why this group was founded in 1944.

BET - Was founded to place more people of color on tv. Most networks catered very little, if any to people of color. Also if you have a problem with Black Entertainment Television as the white man that owns it to change the name.

NAACP - I have listed in a few post above what this group has done for equality.

Any thing else?

In the beginning the KKK was a good organization too. We are not talking about what these organizations USED to be...this is the present.

Its time for the double standards to end. These black organizations don't want equality, they want special treatment.

SMH!!!

WOW!!!

The KKK was started in 1865 and within a few, vrey few years the fed gov passed laws to prosecute Klan crimes. So for maybe a few months was this a "social club."
quote:
hooray for heavily edited videos!!

Hooray indeed, the NAACP had ownership and control of that video, which begs the question of why someone in that group chose to edit out a small snippet? To be fair to Shirley Sherrod and her supporters, she did share a story of enlightenment that was edited to appear that she still was a reverse-racist. Then again to be fair to Breitbart et al. they wouldn't have had access to the full video.

Then again, having the full tape casts a new light on Sherrod's racial epiphany. The racial "us versus them" view turns into socialistic "poor man vs rich man" invective. Also I suspect that if a white Republican public servant proselytized for Bush before a Rotary Club as many times Sherrod sang the praises of Obama and his policies, he would be in trouble for violating the Hatch Act.

The leak didn't come from the NAACP. The event was taped and broadcasted on public television. The leak is from persons unknown who may have edited, or for all we know Breitbart edited it himself. The full version came from the original recorder once the NAACP allowed it to be released.

I'm not going to ignore your socialism trolling.

Nope, the NAACP owned the tape, but it was shot by a production crew. From the NAACP website:

quote:
Watch the Shirley Sherrod Speech in Full

The video of Shirley Sherrod released by Andrew Brietbart's Big Government Blog on July 19 didn't tell the full story. It was selectively edited to cast her in a negative light. Here is the video, shot by the local NAACP unit that hosted Ms. Sherrod. Watch the video, and judge for yourself.
http://www.naacp.org/news/entry/video_sherrod/

As for trolling for socialists, this one jumped in the boat.
