Same reason you got paid a lot for doing nothing, producing no goods, and I would bet any money, you pay/paid very little in taxes.

You really have no idea how that works, do you! Investors trade stocks and buy corporate bonds on the market.  Those stocks and bonds are how corporations raise capital to enlarge or refurbish their plants and offices.  The investors aren't just the rich, they include pension funds, healthcare,  life, home, auto and other insurance companies, The government taxes capital gains because it desires to encourage formation of new companies and growth of existing ones.

Gerrymandering and low voter turn out. I think it was something like 36%. Hopefully democrats learned a hard lesson for staying at home. Although I am sure many that wanted to vote were met with obstacles put in place by Republican voting laws. It worked! It's the only way they can win anymore and as more and more of them die off even those tactics won't work. A more liberal and progressive future awaits us. Millennial's will overtake the Baby Boomers very soon. They are much more diverse and only 7% of them identify as Republican. It's just a waiting game at this point.

Really hope you don't have a long term bet of that.

"Consider this: In a 2013 Harvard survey, 52% of 18- to 24-year-olds said they'd recall and replace President Obama."

Millennials are learning to not be so trusting of promises. All the Dems have is promises -- all hat, no cattle.  Like most, as they gain wisdom and experience, they will tend conservative and vote as such.
