This article documents abuse of the term racism.  I don't deny that unfortunately racist acts occur and happen on the part and offense of all races and against all races and no matter who is getting hurt or damaged Racism is horrible and bad.  What hurts though is when such overt abuse of using racism as an unfounded cause.  Such events do real harm to actual racism and spurs disbelief of many actual events.  How many times is racism used as an excuse rather than being an actual offense?

The media coverage doesn't damage race relations. What damages race relations is how we interpret media coverage.

For example,

Person A: never has experienced racism and has only witnessed a few instances of racism

Person B: Has personally experienced racism or has witnessed racism in action.

Our society is complex so both can be true.  If we are all against racism, then we need to be vigilante of it and call it out. Sometimes, people cry racism/reverse racism to shield themselves from their own stupid behavior. The doesn't mean real systemic examples of racism exist.

Bottom line: we all have the responsibility to look out for one another and to not look for scapegoats, i.e. the media, to absolve ourselves from responsibility. The same people that claim the media is dishonest still use the media when it's convenient....

That's the real challenge.

If the media did not have an agenda to push that would help.  Might not be a solution but would help.  Needless to say though there is no indication that an impartial and interested in reporting information media is anywhere close at hand.

Can you imagine if the kid from Covington wins his lawsuits? Maybe after a few wins the false accusers will start thinking twice.

Two completely cases having nothing to do with each other. Person A was minding his own business and was accosted because of his hat that he had every right to have on. Then he was falsely accused of a "racist" act and "set upon" by the rabid leftie news media and others. When he was vindicated by the proof...no one bother to apologize for trying to ruin his life and having death threats made to him and his family.

Person B modified an airsoft gun, not a BB gun, to make it look real by taking off the orange tip. Then he went to the park and started pulling it out and pointing it at cars. He was not accused of a racist act. He was as large as an adult male and refused to show the officers his hands. He made a movement officers took as his pulling out the gun...game over.

The report stated that, "The officers, who had no idea that the gun was fake or that Tamir was only 12, thought he was going to pull the gun out at them.” Prosecutors said in a December 2015 report that the toy gun in question was “functionally identical” to a real gun. The Los Angeles Times reported that prosecutors stated: "Tamir was big for his age—5-foot-7 and 175 pounds, with a men's XL jacket and size-36 pants—and could have easily passed for someone much older.”

Actual gun kid waved around and the real gun.

Like I said, there are lessons to learn in each case.  I didn't say anything about race/racism involving those cases.  You did.  I didn't place a value on either case. You did. Perspective is about personal responsibility. Are you trying to improve race relations or not?

While you may be correct I also believe you are incorrect as both can potentially be right, as you stated.  Remember that it is humans that choose what stories to promote and to report and also the way they are reported and written.  Then there are overt efforts on the part of some, with agendas, to make a story be something it never was as in the case of Mark Zimmerman's 911 call that was specifically edited by NBC to make it appear that Zimmerman was racist.  Zimmerman may or may not have racist tendencies or beliefs but his actual call never actually revealed that either way.  NBC's reporting though was such that it attempted to steer the viewer's opinion and in that way the media is culpable.

I do agree though that everything else being the same that a particular viewer's, or listener's, own biases do play a part in the way they view stories or reports.  I do though believe that racism exist in all races however there is a vast difference in what events are actually reported and highlighted.  ALL Racism is bad and should be called out where ever and when ever it happens by all races.

One particular failure to address the problem happened when a previous presidential candidate made the statement "all lives matter" and took so much flak that he retracted his statement.  It's too bad that humans cannot look at each other and see each other as God does.  We are souls/spirits first and our outer container, the flesh, may be different but we are all the same, in God's sight and view.  This is the way we should look at each other as genderless, colorless, and exactly the same spirit/souls.

Where did I mention race? I said A was falsely accused of racism....why don't you want that mentioned?  If you can't keep up maybe you should not be posting in such a frenetic way.

Your problem....everyone has experienced racism and discrimination at one time or the other...but you don't want to acknowledge that. That's why people have no interest in the left's claims of racism. Too...the left's miserable habit of making every statement and every action from the right into racism has gotten old and most people don't even pay attention any more to their hysterics over every word spoken.....(they never call out the racist liberals). The altered videos they are constantly circulating...showing one snippet of an interaction and the person being declared racist...like Nick Sandmann's...is another thing that is getting old. Get back to me when the left finishes their war with "old white men". Imagine someone from the right constantly posting about "old black men" and black privilege!
