Back in the early 1980s, when legalizing alcohol sales was being debated, we  were told that the taxes generated would greatly benefit the education of our school children.  From today's paper:

"Connie Roberts, Florence's chief school financial officer, said while the roughly $65,000 [in alcohol sales taxes] the system receives from the city is a very small percentage of its $52 million annual budget, it's still important to the system."

That is roughly about enough for pay and benefits for one teacher.  By no stretch does it live up to the false expectations created by the proponents of legal sales.  Seems like other functions of government have managed to glom onto most of the tax money while the school system sucks the hind t e a t!
