Jim Walter Homes: Now ceased, or just severely shut back?

I just read the story on ShoalsInsider.com, and thought this paragraph fascinating: "In the release, Walter Industries Chairman Michael T. Tokarz said the company will remain headquartered in Tampa and its 50 corporate employees are not affected by Tuesday’s announcement."

The story also indicates that "the company decided to close its founding division," whatever THAT means.

If a company "closes its doors," then they cease to exist. Right?

So then, there are NO MORE headquarters. Right?

Now, let me see if I get this straight.

The corporation lays off EVERYBODY but the CEO, among the top 50, who live in a year-round tropical paradise called Tampa, FL, and CONTINUES to stay in business.

Just tryin' to understand it...

I`m surprised they stayed in business as long as they had.I worked for a local"Home Improvement Warehouse" and we would deliver drywall.And let me tell you their was a lot of cutting corners in those homes.

Shoals Lover - The reason the company is staying in business is because Jim Walter Homes is just one subsidiary of Walter Industries, which has a large mining presence in Alabama.

The reason it was not clear in the story on the Shoals Insider is because their story was just copied and pasted - without attribution - from this story, Link and some relevant parts were deleted.

Well it looks like a smart move on their part as the coal and mineral industry will probably boom. Somebody made a smart move when they started diversifying their interests to include minerals. The sad part is the people losing their jobs.

I'm curious why Shoals Insider took the story down and replaced it with a press release after it was pointed out on this forum that their original story was copied from another media outlet without attribution.

Their explanation was that they wanted to "defer doubts about their sources."

There wasn't really any doubt, it was obvious that the story was copied and pasted.
