He's very right in his statement that the City Council would not considering "working something out" -- Carrier wants all or nothing. Unfortunately, we are most likely going to get nothing with this appeal except more legal fees.

However, as far as this "negative publicity" hurting his business etc...pay your debt and there won't be anything negative to be said anymore -- I have no sympathy for him.
I know I miss a lot on this forum but, was the "non-recourse" loan made by the city an official, legal loan? If so, then they need to just forget it. Otherwise, if the loan was NOT legal, why not go after the officials who made it in the first place? Would that not be mis-use of public funds? And a criminal charge for those who made it?
The "scoop" is Neese has refused to talk to any media at all about this. I think the Insider is doing some construction on its site by the e-mail I got from them. They have some cool stuff on there. Send them a note on the contact us icon. They will send you an e-mail. They sent me one thanking me for my comment. They said they we're working on their Colbert County public records today.
From the article, "I asked Neese about any suggestions he might have on repayment of the loan. "There are other programs in other cities where sales tax from renovated buildings goes to retire the debt. Studies have shown that it works."

WHAT THE HELL?

Neese now wants to collect sales tax from the citizens of Florence then send those collections in to retire his personal debt?

Does anyone else grasp the brazen stupidity of this plan?

The city is right to continue to pressure this man for payment until his business has faded into oblivion. It may be a fruitless battle but the city has a duty to peruse this man on behalf of those of us who have struggled to pay our debts.
In Florence the truth is stranger than fiction and this dude takes the cake, hands down. God Bless Angie Pickens and Scott Carrier all the more. After this, I applaud them even more. What brazen, arrogant, nonsense. Now he wants to use citizens sales tax to bail him out or to fund other "loans"? Work something out? MAKE A PAYMENT ON BLISS BLOCK YOU WELCHER. How come Neese Real Estate still has a business license? That should be dealt with. These people are awful and wrong and it is pathetic. To think we have a "mayor" who did not want to even try to do anything about it. Hopefully that will soon change and the sooner the better.

From what I read in the article, Jimmy didn't say much at all? Now he is complaining about having to pay more attorneys fees. Maybe he should go ahead and pay towards his obligation?

You know, it brings back the subject of another person who was influential that was continuously fighting against the city? This person used to be seen all the time driving around a truck with lemons painted on the side. Sad to say, he has deceased now.
I went to the court house and the only lien I could find against Bliss Block was for $877,000. Maybe with late fees and past due interest it is over a million. I figure loan payments, taxes and insurance would run about 6000 to 7000 a month. Just guessing but the rent from the buildings would run about 10000 to 12000 a month. Since the city is not being paid I wonder what is happening to the money. If I am off base Neese could give the real numbers to city council. I have heard he refuses to gibve the city the numbers. May be wrong as it is second hand. I am told the mom pays all her bills.
Bubbaluck-yes I was serious. I am probably wrong as just taking a wild guess. Would value your imput. Six apartments at 650-750 each. A stock broker at 2000 to 3000. Neese Rreal Estate at 1500-2000. Insurance company ar 1500-2000. Two offices on Court St at 2500. A dress shop at 700-900. A sub shop at 1400-1600. would not have to guess if the information was public. This comes to 12,000 to 14500 a month. I guess I was too low the first time
Hi guys. I don't normally post but I felt I needed to here. After reading the Shoals Insider article, and after a lot of thought and deliberation, I've come to the conclusions that Jimmy Neese is a self-centered, self-righteous, self-serving, infantile, ego-maniac. Jeez....I have never heard such absolute bs in my entire life. He sounds exactly like a spoiled brat that always got his way. And now he's taking this Blake girl (DDB, LLC) for a ride and probably all of her money.

But that's just my thinking.
If I loaned all the members of this forum $1000 and said that you did not have to pay it back and you decided not to pay me back, could I complain? Would you be a bad person if you did not pay me back? Now, we all know Neese is a snake, but, it just ain't his fault. It was the city's fault. Plain and simple. Might as well forget the whole thing.

That's somewhat disturbing. If you LOANED me $1,000 we would have an agreement. I would pay your money back, whether or not you said it was okay not to. I may not be able to pay you back on time, but I WOULD pay you back.

If I was a snake and didn't pay you back, no you couldn't complain, but you could make some effort to get your money back, at least try to work something out with me.
First forget politics and who was responsible for the loan as that is history. I am looking for help on non recourse loans. I thought even if this was a non recourse loan Bliss Block was obligated to repay the loan but Neese could not be sued for the money. The real question is what is Bliss Block worth. If Neese would turn over the financial records for Bliss Block Florence and the Florence citizens would know. Am I off base or not? This needs to be settled as per the Neese interview this is causing him to pay an attorney money to answer why he will not pay back the 650000. I know we all agree this is not fair to Mr. Neese

Well, I would be a dishonorable person. I would not be a man of my word. I would be a bad credit risk and I would assume that you would never do business with me. I would worry that you would also tell others to not do business with me again, either.

Would that make me a bad person? You are damm right it would.
Something that has always baffled me, is if J. Neese is an officer of Neese Realty, why are they still licensed to do business in the city of Florence?

You might not ever get any money from him because of the stupidity of the earlier city council that handed this money over to him but you can deny him from having any licensed business interest in this city until an arrangement to pay something back is instituted.
Your still missing the point. Neese has not done anything "LEGALLY" wrong. As I said before , he IS still a snake. But you cannot deny him a business license because of low morals. They have no LEGAL grounds to try to punish him. Only thing left is to learn a very expensive lesson from this. Hey, even our court system said he has done nothing wrong and does not have to pay back the money.
