WASHINGTON — A two-year grand jury investigation of John Edwards has reached a decisive point. Prosecutors believe they have a strong case, but have not yet gotten a green light from the Justice Department to charge the former presidential candidate, NBC News has learned. The issue: did Edwards violate election laws by trying to cover up his affair with a campaign videographer, Rielle Hunter.

Sources close to the investigation say Justice Department attorneys are now conducting a final review of evidence, and an indictment could come within days or weeks. In what could be an ominous development for Edwards, prosecutors already are making arrangements to record the sworn testimony of a key witness for possible use in a future trial, said the sources, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“It would be surprising now if he wasn’t indicted,” said Stephen Saltzburg, a former federal prosecutor and George Washington University law professor. “If John Edwards was aware that money was being paid to hide his mistress... and it was done to help his campaign, then he’s in trouble.”

Edwards, the piece of human merde, was nearly president. Less than an empty suit, he's a bouffant with nothing underneath, except a monumental ego.

Democratic -- a combination of three words. Demos, ancient Greek, for citizens, or people. Cra(p) which is self explanatory. And, tic(k), a parasite that gorges itself on the blood of its host, leaving behind a debilitating disease.

Sounds right to me!

You know how they carry on about Newt divorcing his wife when she had cancer, and no matter how she took up for him and said the divorce was by mutual agreement they still never let up. Then look how this POS made his dying wife campaign for him while he was screwing around and knocking up his "girlfriend". Then he got someone to lie trying to cover it up. Oh but hey, he's got that big D after his name so it's ok with the democrites.
It's not ok with me.

I'm as yellow as they come....most of the time Wink, but this creep makes me sick. Seriously. Thank GOD he was not elected.

The only thing I am sorry about is that Elizabeth was not able to triumph over her cancer, divorce him, take 50% or more plus the kids, and kick dirt on his face as she was walking out the door.

He is the ultimate definition of the world's worst husband. He did everything you should not do. If any man wants to find out how to be a good husband, do the OPPOSITE of everything John did.

Ashamed he was ever on my "team". Yuck. The world needs LESS like him.

You're the first dem I have ever seen that has a problem with something someone in their party did. I've said it over and over that no one can agree 100% with any party, to do that would be foolish. And like I said, the demos love to drag up things against Republicans while completely ignoring the pile of dog **** in their own house. Look at all the threads against Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, etc. and they even made threads about Reagan's children as if that somehow meant something. At least they could be half way current. How about Chelsea Clinton-big millions of dollar wedding a year ago and now reports say she's headed for divorce. Odd that I haven't seen the dems make a thread about that.
Every time someone brings up a sex scandal having to do with EITHER party, I have said something to the effect of, "Both parties have had their share of this type of thing, so nobody should be throwing stones unless they are also prepared to duck."

So Edwards is morally deficient. There are lots of other dems, and lots of Repubs who are equally morally deficient. So what?
I agree with O No. To me if ANY person makes it to the point of holding a high office (Congress, President) more than likely they did something unethical to get there at some point. None of them are clean.

Their sex lives mean nothing to me. I could care less if they slept with a different person everyday of the week. Does being a cheater make someone unable to make decisions on laws and policies? I don't think so. It might be a character flaw but if we start weeding out candidates on those issues we would have no one to choose from.

This country needs to stop focusing on such issues. We have bigger problems.

But yes, Edwards is a cheating scum bag. I will agree on that.

Nice words. The problem is though that it doesn't matter if it's a democrite involved. Read the posts, they never stop dragging up things that have nothing to do with running our country, they even resort to talking about Palin's unmarried daughter. But like I said, if the person has a D after their name then there is nothing at all wrong with anything they do. Hypocrites, the whole bunch.

I'm not sure what "Jennifer's" problem is, but she'd be a lot more believable if she would stop making those types of broad statements. I have never said anything about Palin's daughter or any other Republican's personal "misconduct". And there are a lot of other Dems just like me, who care about the issues, not the personal lives of politicians.

Now, WHO is it that is a hypocrite?

Call me old fashioned but if someone cannot be trusted to keep their wedding oath, how can we expect them to keep any oath or secrets required to hold a elected position?

Marriage is a trap. It's unreasonable to expect a man to remain faithful to a single person over the better part of a lifetime. We are genetically programmed to spread our seed generously to keep the species and the gene pool healthy. The fittest males are the ones whose DNA is passed on, ensuring the survival of the best of the species.

The divorce rate proves that out.

"The fittest males are the ones whose DNA is passed on, ensuring the survival of the best of the species" THEN SOMETHING HAS DEFINITELY GONE WRONG!!!! LOOK AROUND.
