Jorma Kaukonen was the guitar player for Jefferson Airplane in the 60's and early 70's. Just after he left that august group, he became the visionary guitarist for Hot Tuna.
An elderly man who went by the name of Papa John Creach played fiddle (not violin) for JA and Hot Tuna, but became too frail to tour with them about the time Hot Tuna formed.
I was always a fan.
Shortly after I moved to LA, I saw where Jorma was playing a venue on the Westside called "McCabe's Guitar Shop". It's still there. Not only is it a guitar shop, but it features a small concert hall, seating about 60 people, more or less, on folding chairs. I bought a ticket.
The following historic video is what happened there. It was Papa John's final appearance. I would have been happy to hear Jorma's solo show, and had been until he made a surprise announcement.

One of Hot Tuna's best tunes is "Mann's Fate". The following video misspells the title of the track, but it's still awfully good.

I consider my luck at being at McCabe's on that night one of the fortunate breaks in my life. I can never forget it.
