Jury seated in lawsuit against Osteen's wife.

HOUSTON -- A jury was seated Wednesday in a lawsuit alleging the wife of nationally known pastor Joel Osteen assaulted a flight attendant.

Opening arguments were set for Thursday in a case Victoria Osteen's lawyer called "silly." But Reginald McKamie, attorney for Continental Airlines flight attendant Sharon Brown, said he hopes the trial will show "that celebrity status doesn't take precedence."

Brown accuses Victoria Osteen of assaulting her before the start of a 2005 flight from Houston to Vail, Colo. Brown alleges Victoria Osteen threw her against a bathroom door and elbowed her in the left breast during an angry outburst over a stain on her first-class seat. The Federal Aviation Administration fined Victoria Osteen $3,000 for interfering with a crew member.

Joel Osteen was at his wife's side Wednesday in court. McKamie said he expected to call the couple as witnesses.

Joel Osteen preaches at Lakewood Church, a Houston megachurch where about 42,000 people flock each week and where Victoria Osteen is co-pastor. His weekly television address is broadcast nationally and internationally.

Some potential jurors during questioning admitted to being star-struck by the Osteens and that their respect for them might affect their judgment.

"He has gotten me through a lot of tough times. I would believe what he has to say. I have a lot of respect for him," one female in the jury pool said.

Other potential jurors said they didn't like preachers or televangelists and that ministers can lie.

Brown wants an apology and punitive damages amounting to 10 percent of Victoria Osteen's net worth as part of her suit.

Victoria Osteen's lawyer, Rusty Hardin, said before jury selection began Wednesday that Brown's claims are false and that what happened was a "minor incident." Hardin also asked a judge to throw out an FAA report detailing the alleged incident, saying the agency's investigation was "incredibly incomplete."

"This is a very silly case," Hardin told reporters.

McKamie said the FAA did an appropriate investigation. State District Judge Patricia Han**** said she would make a decision later on whether the report would be allowed.

Brown's suit claims the flight attendants asked to have Victoria Osteen removed from the plane. Hardin says Victoria Osteen and her family left voluntarily. The incident delayed the flight about 2 1/2 hours.

According to court documents, Brown claims that she suffers from anxiety and hemorrhoids because of the incident and said her faith was affected. She is also suing Osteen for medical expenses for counseling.

Brown had previously claimed she was attacked in another incident by an airport employee, according to a deposition she gave in the case.

Don't you just love these good looking model types that marry preachers? If I'm not mistaken, Miss Alabama, I forget what year, married a preacher. O'Steen's wife, she's got the rich *****, I'm better than you look, and an attitude of my do-do don't stink who reminds people that she's christian. This chicks got dark hair roots, fake blonde hair, or should I say cheap blonde hair. Big Grin
She may be guilty, though if I were on a jury I would find it hard to award 10% of of this woman's worth to a lady who claims that being pushed into a plane's bathroom door gave her hemmorhoids.....I mean could she not have come up with something better than that????? Tha'ts just embarassing. besides the plaintiff in this trial has evidently tried this before, the last time against a fellow employee at the airport. Sounds like a ruse to me.

the punishment should be the same for anyone committing such an infraction. but the damages should be paid in the same manner, regardless of her 'net worth'.

if you think mrs osteen looks that bad, you obviously don't consider her one of the 'good-looking model types'. and it could be that miss alabama, etc is a Christian and has high standards for her choice in a mate.

i don't know miss alabama 1983 or who she married. they may be quite wealthy, and they might love their money. are they braggers of their 'goods'? do they give God no glory for His ample provision? do they give to the poor? do they pay their tithes? do they support God's work in other arenas? i have no idea.
what i DO know is that God has the best here on earth for His children. and just because someone has a lot of 'stuff' is no indication of how much they have given and used in service to God. the treasures of Heaven are laid up by discreet giving, and only them and God knows that amount.

if preachers are materially wealthy, yet give as God calls them to do, they are surely to be blessed even more by Him. the same applies to any Christian. i have found that i cannot outgive God.
Luke 6:38:"...give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."
I am sure that didn't cause her hemorrhoids, and she's probably out for a buck, but I'll just betcha poor little Joel puts up with a heck of a lot more out of that wife that we'll ever know. Maybe he needs to learn the old adage - pretty is as pretty does! Wait, he probably has ALREADY learned it - the hard way.
I can't resist! The defiant young woman witn a cabin class ticket plopped herself in a first class seat on a Hawaii bound flight and declined to move even after three flight attendants told her that she must move. Finally, in despair the attendants asked the captain for help. He went over to the woman and whispered something in her ear. She promptly got up and went to the cabin where she belonged. When asked what he said to her the captain replied, "I told her first class did not go to Hawaii". This joke has been made politically correct as to hair color, etc.
I got called out to a patient's house way in the boonies at midnight Saturday night. I was there till 4 am on Sunday. I had my son ride with me and wait in the car (with his new Iphone - he was happy). After I figured out the patient was not dying right that second we left and headed back home. Stopped at the Waffle House in Moody. There were the usual "night people" including a couple of people on motorcycles. As the motorcycle couples left and were getting on their bikes, a car came screeching into the parking lot and parked within inches of the bikes (he had the whole parking lot pretty much to park in) narrowly missing the bikers. Then the drunken idiiot started yelling at the bikers and came into the restaurant spewing obscentieis loudly. The employees were trying to make him leave but apparently his big old drunk sister who was in the booth right behind us crying over a man. At any rate, then he left and went back to the people on the bikes and started yelling again. The drunk sister got in on it, HER drunk friend went out to the lot, then they all started fighting, my kid and I went to the counter to pay and one of the waitresses picked up the phone to call the cops. The one at the counter said, "You'll have to wait to pay with your card, she has to call the police on this line". I said, "Nope. You need to run my card" and she did, and we left.

Last night about 7 I was called back to the man I had seen that morning because he'd died. The policeman who came to the scene and watchedme waste the narcs was one of the guys at the Waffle House earlier. Apparently there was some nose punching, hair pulling and some arrests for public drunkenness. There is no charge for public idiocy I guess.
