The food was pretty good.
My Mom managed the cafeteria for a while in the late 70's.
And in the 70's.....was it just my imagination, or did the store have a much wider variety of merchandise than the present store?
Anyone else remember that they had a cashier and register in different departments, not just up front ?
I still remember the layout of that store, especially where the record department was. KMart was THE place to shop when I was little, and you could get anything you needed there. Remember the appliance department? My parents bought our first refrigerator with an ice maker there.

And for groceries we shopped at the Liberty grocery store near seven points.

When I was little I used to love to watch the cashiers push down those buttons and hit that big button to 'ring up' the sale. If anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, "Cashier."
SoI remember being in there with my parents and they had one of those little basketball goals right beside the cafeteria. We were shooting a few hoops and playing ball inside (yes my mom told me not to play ball in the house!) I remember shooting the ball and it bounced off the rim and over the wall and hitting a table where people were eating. We didn't take time to see who it was, we just took off running to find my parents and nobody ever knew who did it.

Oh by the way, if you were ever eating there and a small basketball came over the wall and hit your plate, I may be able to help you finf the culprit! Big Grin Sorry

My mother worked at Liberty Supermarket for awhile. I remember seeing those type cash registers at Wilson's Foods in North Florence. Then when they would total it, out would come your S&H Green Stamps out of that other little machine.
