I live south of Lexington, so I don't vote there. I do keep up with who's running. I hadn't seen any campaign signs, so I asked a friend who lives on Hwy64 in town. Well...

It seems there aren't going to be any elections this year. They have a mayor and five at large concil members, that's six spots. My friend said only six people signed up to run as far as he knows.

Four years ago Herman Jaggers came in as mayor and made a lot of promises. I don't know why he's not sticking with it. I know I keep hearing the town is being sued over the ambulance service, but I can't find anyone who will say if it's being dissolved like I once heard.

Considering a certan topic(s) in News, I'm not even going to say who the new "mayor" will be. It should be interesting.

Anyone know what's really going on?

I've always heard that anyone has one year to just file intent to sue. I'm sorry anyone lost a child, but some people are moneygrubbers--not saying these people are. I had heard they had a lawyer in B'ham, but that may not be true.

If it isn't true, why doesn't anyone want to run for council. I had a friend who ran four years ago, then quickly resigned. He told me all he was going to do, but I never heard why he got so upset with the job. In the end all he did was resign and leave it to those that had been there forever.

The same with Jaggers. I don't know what he did or didn't do, but he had promised to do a lot! Now he's out in October and they have...well, you know what they have!
I just read in the Lexington paper that for a mere 62.00 you can buy a Toter garbage can for the city to use on your own property. Here in Florence, the city does provide that to its citizens, as does Lauderdale County. I would have much better things to do with my money than to buy the town of Lexington a fancy garbage pail to use to pick up my garbage when they are charging X dollars each month already. Perhaps any new council members can address this problem.

Mayor McGee was a good mayor. The citizens indicated they wanted a sewer system--an altogether good investment. Problems were due to a lack of audits for several years and a co-mingling of funds from the water and sewer departments. The Suburban News once reported there may have been as much as 40K missing from the water department, but there was no forensic audit conducted.

Current Mayor Herman Jaggers ran on the platform of balancing the budget. I've not heard how he did with that project. I know they sold the town clinic to pay the town's water bill. Some problems with the water system go back to the 1960s. Now Jaggers seems to be bailing on the town.

As for the stability of the town, I've heard for months that the family who lost a child to SIDS is suing the town and ambulance service. One plan was to relinquish the town charter. This seems to be on the hush-hush.

So...why would anyone want to take over as mayor?
Then new Mayor also worked for that ambulance service that is being sued from what I understand. Small town politics, they let anything go..

Here is an example of Russellville's politics. There is a man that is on the council running for Mayor of Russellville and he went to prison for years because he was in with the Dawson Gang.. He will more than likely be elected.
Do people have no morals? I know stupid question~
