Has anyone else been watching Lockup: Holman Extended Stay on MSNBC? It is really interesting, while really perplexing. I had no idea that inmates had so many rights - like the right to property. They have books, CD players, pens, razors, all sorts of stuff. Their family members are allowed to send them shoes, belts, food, and personal care items. I guess I figured if you were in jail, you didn't have any 'things'. Very weird.
Another thing that struck me is - they have a huge problem with inmates making weapons. Yet - they allow them to have metal belt buckles, metal utensils in the dining hall, and access to razors! WHAT? I don't see why. If I were the grand warden - no metal on the belts. They can wear pants that fit or tie them up Karate style. No utensils in the cafeteria (period). You can eat a bacon/egg/cheese biscuit for breakfast or drink your cereal like my kid does. Have a sandwich with chips for lunch and a nice piece of fruit. Dinner would be pizza, chicken, soups, stew, etc... things you can eat with your hands or drink from a cup.
Seems like a lot of drama is caused in the prison because of someone's need to make the prisoner's feel comfortable and at home. What is your opinion?
