A terrible example of the increasing callousness of our country.

A 78 year old man was hit by a car and left in the street. Cars simply drive past him and bystanders just stare. If you watch the video, it appears as if one guy is taking pics with his cell phone, but not calling for help.

This is a great indicator of Americas decline as a world power. Civics isn’t taught in school anymore and people have become apathetic. In large ethnically diverse overcrowded cities where people don’t know each other they simply don’t care about people. If this had happened in Florence I feel for certain more people would have helped sooner.

Another cause is the fact that most people are rushed for time and the simply don’t pay attention or don’t care. This is a sign of humans over populating the earth.
that is horrible.

i was right behind a car that hit a man on a bicycle in lawrenceburg a couple of years ago. i stopped, called 911 and went to the man and tried to comfort him. i was afraid to move him, but i stayed with him til the ambulance got there.

the main thing i remember is feeling so bad that i had nothing to put between his head and the pavement, not that i'm sure i could have safely gotten something under his head. i vowed to always carry a clean towel at least in my vehicle, so i'd have SOMETHING in case this ever happens again.

several other people stopped, too. i don't believe this would ever happen here....
I guess I'm just dumb. I simply can't understand how you can see someone hurt, laying in the middle of the street, and not try to help him. Even just going over to him and calling 911 and waiting with him until help arrives. I wouldn't have moved him, because it's best for the paramedics to do that, since they are trained and I am not.

I also can't understand how you can be driving a car, run over someone, and not stop.

I hope they catch the persons responsible for hitting him.

Ditto!
My heart goes out to the victim and his family. There was such pain in the son's voice when he was holding the press conference. I pray that the driver that hit him is found and punished to the fullest extent of the law. What a sad day in America that something like could happen on a city street and NO ONE stops to help OR call 911. I wonder how they feel now about what they DIDN'T do???????
unbelievable

I agree, it could happen anywhere because that is what society has become. It is difficult for us to fathom that it could happen because most of those who post on message boards are generally more aware of the world and more civic minded. Most of us would stop without hesitation. The fact is, there are people out there that just don't care.

thanks, 2 each! but what i did was not remarkable in any way, imo. i cannot believe that most people would have reacted the way the people in this situation did.

What you did was remarkable,,, especially in the day and age where ppl dont do anything at all....... I am with you that most ppl should react as you did........ but most ppl nowdays dont want to get involved in anything and that is very sad..........

Actually, if you read the article, it says that 6 people called 911 within the first minute.

not if i'm passing by, it won't.

Me to "hoss gal" I can't even pass by a kitten or a dog that has been hit, and how low life can some people get, not to offer help.

i hear you, mr. bluesman! you are my kind of folks. even with no medical knowledge, you can hold someone's hand and tell them help is coming, or comfort a helpless animal.

i found a puppy on the side of the road about a month ago. nine weeks old and thrown out by some jerk. sooo, even though i have 5 dogs already, i now have a puppy. thank goodness he didn't get hit before i found him.
