A few years ago, I worked for a while in Corinth, and found a little Mediterranean restaurant there (JT's) and fell in love with some of that kind of food,

Does anybody know of a Mediterranean restaurant anywhere around here ?  I got me a craving for some shawarma on a good dark green Med salad, and some good falafels.

Wife and I were down about 2 weeks before Christmas. The one at Zekes was closed until (Jan or Feb ?) , so we ate at the one in Foley. Kinda out of our way after a day at the beach, but still worth it.

Wife does not like Royal Reds , but there is a place called "Undertows" over on the canal that has AUCE Sundays after 4.

Been waiting on a week down there where the weather is predicted to be above 70 since Xmas, but alas, it's been cold.

Thanks, but, well there are just some things I would rather go out and eat, and shawarma is one of those, plus I like it made with lamb.

I am gonna try my hand at some falafels tho., I figure if I can cook a hushpuppu, I can make a falafel.

I also like Shrimp Basket, (we usually go to the one close to lillianspizza,, and as you probably know by now, it's not too far from my place, but my wife just prefers WB. I also like Desoto's broiled platter, and Original Oyster House, but always have to wait there.,

We also like Flounders out on Pensacola beach.

Still, WB turns out to be the cheapest for us to eat, since we can get one order and it's so big we split it, all the others we have to get 2 orders. (Except when I get a cravin' for the stuffed Flounder at WB, which all my wife realy likes is shrimp and scallops. both fried)

In NYC some of the smaller less expensive(great food) restaurants combine cuisines so they can share eqipment/rent.  I had Cuban at a Cuban/Chinese combo!  Absolutely fantastic!  How about Indian/IGreek combo in the Shoals?

do not go expecing cinammon in the sauce and oregao on the kebab.  it is o, bt not my Greek!

EM, it would be nice for some of you that live in the Shoals to have some diverse dining options. However, the tastes of the majority of people in the Shoals seem to be very simple. I don't know if anything like an Indian, Thai, Greek, etc... would work there and I definitely would not want to be the one investing in such a venture. Once again that's JMO and I may be wrong.

I think you are right. Around here it's a lot of mediocre food at a cheap price. Fried fish, BBQ, and for women Chicken Tenders rule the day.

Come to think of it, I don't even know of a Thai restaurant this side of Nashville.

There's a very good thai place in Huntsville at Memorial and Airport Road. When you exit off of memorial and head towards the "mountain" it's in the first shopping center on the right before you get to Whitesburg. I can't remember the name of it but it is very good.

Do they have a Long John Silver's?  I like elite upscale places like that!

The wife and I go to Hville quite a bit and Madison.   They have so many different eateries there it is amazing.  In the last couple of years we have eaten at, just name a few, Chipotle, Red Robin, TGIFridays, Wintzells, Lone Star, Newks, New Ichiban, Jasons Deli, McCalisters, Nothing But Noodles, Another Broken Egg Cafe, Mellow Mushroom, Bison Bar & Grill, 3rd Base Grill, Bandito Burritto, Dennys, Five Guys, Jimmy Johns, Bonefish Grill, Cheddars, Pie in the Sky, Smash Burger, Surin, Shaggy's and my two favorites that are no longer around, Great Wraps & Apollo Cafe.    We haven't even scratched the surface yet either.

You've missed one of the very best restaurants in the area. BTW, the food isn't "dressed up" for the photos. The "presentation" is even better in "person".

Surin is a thai restaurant in Madison, and I believe Surie is in Huntsville.  There may be more than those two, but there are two this side of Nashville that I know about.

Edit:  Also Phuket is in Huntsville.   It is a Thai restaurant in the same area as Mellow Mushroom, near the Lexus dealership.

They serve oysters, shrimp, prime rib, steaks, salmon, all sorts of things, you won't be disappointed if you try them.

Yes I know.  I will try it at some point.   But it is still what I would call country cooking for the most part.   The side consist of things like mashed potatoes and green beans, etc.  Not saying that is a bad thing, just not my normal thing.   I will get in that mood from time to time, and usually locally I hit Legends or Garden Gate.   Will give Clark's a go before too long.

Thanks, I am going to have to go get reacquainted with Huntsville. It was kinda like a second home town to me back about the time they built the bypass that turned into Memorial Parkway on the outskirts of town. It's changed a bit since then, and most of my close kin are dead now, but I still need to go back - maybe first pretty weekend.

Glad you enjoyed them, I put some on a zip drive and run it on the big screen. Real peaceful to watch the slide show going with a sound machine creating surf sounds.
