Men in Black MIB is about to release the fourth installment in the series and one in which the main characters of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have been replaced with two new actors.  I hope the new episode will do the movie series justice as I have enjoyed the three episodes before but they are fighting a huge fight which is to keep the series interesting and alive.  Few movie sequels tend to be as good and interesting as those that preceded them but there are some notable exceptions where even the last in the series tended to leave some desire for yet another episode or sequel to come.  Some of the movie series where they were able to keep interest peaked was:

American Pie series (some exceptions) but they just tried to milk too much out of it and four was enough but more was just overkill and took it down.  True it's risque and vulgar at times but they have at least kept ways to keep it relevant and funny and for comedies not many can repeat as well.

Star Trek even with the change of main characters kept the interest up and demand alive.  Still today with the 3rd generation of actors the series looks to continue and be in good shape

Tom Clancy films - Just like James Bond's there have been many different Jack Ryan's over the years but they have been able to make several films that have been interesting and entertaining such as Hunt for Red October and I don't know if any others are coming but hopefully they have totally retired Alex Baldwin as Jack Ryan if they do have others in the works.

Indiana Jones - Maybe it's that I like Harrison Ford but I enjoyed these movies. The addition of Sean Connery as Indiana Jones father was also a good move but I think they may should have stopped at two but from what I've been told there is yet a fourth installment on the way or being filmed.  Between Indiana Jones, Star Wars Harrison Ford has been kept busy.

Hangover series.  In this one it appears that Three is enough but given the ending of the third installment it really did seem that another was to be released but according to many of the actors involved that will not be the case and the series is not set up to allow for a Whoesale change in main characters.  This one also is risque and vulgar and is adult themed but like the American Pie series has kept the public amused enough to have each sequel and episode maintain it's own.

Marvel and DC Comic Films - These films could, it seems, go on for a lot more episodes but it appears that Marvel, with the death of Stan Lee, may have decided that Avenger's "End Game" is going to be it.  Then again they have so many main characters that each could have their own spinoffs for years to come and keep a great many employed for a long time to come but Chris Evan has said he's quitting and done the last Captain America.  Hard to say though because sometimes the money is just so good that people can't retire.

James Bond - This series has stayed relevant and interesting a way long time and they have had several Bond's through the years as well as finding a replacement for "M" and for "Q" but one thing has remained fairly constant in the films and that is action, adventure, crazy new inventions for Bond to use and of course Bond girls.  There was a move in one of the last movie episodes to make the viewers wonder if Bond could be Bi but Bond is a series that political correctness would kill and according to some reports it's desirability and attractiveness may have ebbed and peaked.

Mission Impossible - This series keeps relevant and interesting in that they keep coming up with interesting storylines and of course can keep Tom Cruise employed and able to shovel even more money to the Church of Scientology.

Star Wars - This series could still have a life of it's own and like Star Trek has it's hard core enthusiasm and addicts so even if the last episode has been filmed it, like Star Trek, will live on in the many and popular conventions associated with each series.

Men in Black - I believe that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones may have felt three episodes was enough or they just priced themselves out of the leading rolls.  This series certainly kept relevant and interesting through three installments but it remains to be seen if the fourth installment can stay relevant and interesting with the new characters.  Rip Torn also is a thing of the past having been caught in the ****o theater doing questionable, embarrassing things.  Guess "Zed" will stay retired due to the actor's actions rather than the writers killing him off.

Transformers & Terminator - Arnold may never "be back" for the Terminator series as I believe it's long past it's prime and although Transformers seems to be able to resurrect  itself without Shia Labeouf, thankfully, who has gone off the deep end with Trump Derangement Syndrome and almost made himself irrelevant to Hollywood but at least he's not out yet and still in demand.  Maybe Shia's politics have gotten him some rolls whereas most others would be dead to new rolls.  Each of these have had multiple episodes but I don't know but that stopping at one might have been best for everyone except the various actors that gained employment account of them.

I'm sure there are plenty more but there are also those movies that just pushed the envelope and should have stuck with one or two episodes.  I'm not going to try and outline many of those or any for that matter because I'm just not that much of a movie goer and usually I wait for the DVD/video to come out and just rent it at home.  I can't remember when the last time I went to a theater to watch a recent release blockbuster.  Maybe others will have some comments and additions.
