Another mall store is suffering and it's not the only one. I don't make it to the Florence mall too many times but I have seen the local Florence Mall after the most recent renovations and improvements and from what it looks like there are quite many storefronts that have disappeared over the years.  There certainly isn't any lack of vacancy for new stores if someone wants to come in and set up one.   There are however many boarded up former stores and one huge empty space formerly occupied by Sears.  Some malls have attempted to remain relevant by mixing up their purpose and having part retail and other parts sold out to companies or businesses that are not retail type businesses but rather insurance or call centers.   One other trend that is hurting the traditional closed shopping mall are the Open Air Mall concepts which is what Bridge Street is.  If there are any new shopping centers being opened or planned then it is usually the Open Air Mall concept like Bridge Street and thankfully they seem to be flourishing all the while the traditional mall concept is declining.

It is to the point now that if the rumors are true about JC Penney suffering and contemplating closing stores then it's possible that the Florence Mall location will be one of them and frankly I don't know if the Mall could stomach the loss of another anchor store like Sears and JC Penney both.  With each closure it surely puts an economic drag on the mall and with an already trend downward due to brick and mortar type stores losing relevance in an internet World with Goliath's like amazon it only makes you wonder what is going to happen next.
