Recently, I switched my landline phone service from AT&T to Vonage.
After the switch I have received several letters from AT&T to let me now how they can save me money on my phone service, if I decide to switch back.
If they could have given me the lower rate in the first place I would still be with them. Maybe, if they did that they wouldn't be losing accounts.

That always annoyed me in the insurance field, also. I would give a potential customer a quote on insurance and they would call their current carrier to cancel and that agent would suddenly be able to meet or beat our price. I was always happy for the customer to save some bucks but my gripe came because if they could have had the better quote all along why did their current carrier wait until they were threatening to leave to offer it. I know the bottom line is the almighty dollar but with so many options out there I would think you would do everything you could to keep your customers from having a reason to shop around. Same thing goes with the phone company and automobile financing. Give the best possible rate you can offer and maybe even call the customer when they have an opportunity to save more by switching plans or coverages or whatever.
I've been going round and round trying to decide whether to "bundle" my phone service with my Comcast stuff or "bundle" my internet and TV with AT&T! It basically all ends up costing the same, but when I called Comcast and told them I was thinking of switching, they gave me free HBO for a year and threw in $20 less a month for my cable and free HD service for six months. Good deal but if I now switch to their phone service, the deal they gave me goes away(except for the free HBO). It all gives me a headache.
jmbo : That is what AT&T has been doing to me since I switched my phone service over to Charter. They keep sending me letters saying how much they can save me now .I am like what Pickler said , if they can do it now , why didnt they do it then .If they had , I would not have switched ,to save money. But I am in a 2 year contract with Charter now - sorry AT&T. Maybe later - huh .
I use vonage and have for a couple of years now. At first..I was really unhappy with the service. It would go out for no reason and be off for hours. I was told by a friend to give them a call (which is a lengthy phone call) and let them know. After I finally done that...everything has been good. But now I see where our cell phone providers are coming up with home phones for like 10.00 a month (with a 2 year agreement). Anyone know about this and is it a good service?
