Is anyone else tired of hearing stories like this??? They're banning the students from wearing anything representing the US flag because they didn't want to pick and choose which flags were okay. Guess what numb nut...you live in the United States!!! Every member of this board just be fired immediately!

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. – On the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, students at one high school were not allowed to wear clothes with an American Flag.

Under a new school rule, students at Hobbton High School are not allowed to wear items with flags, from any country, including the United States.

The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries.

Gayle Langston said her daughter, Jessica, was told to remove her stars and stripes t-shirt.

“Today she wanted to wear her shirt, and I had to tell her no,” said Langston. “She didn't like it at all because I knew it would get her in trouble. Of all days, 9/11, she could not wear her American Flag shirt.”

The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didn’t want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.

"When you trust your television, what you get is what you got. Cuz when they own the information they can bend it all they want."

Read the entire code:

quote:
The words 'flag, standard, colors, or ensign', as used herein, shall include any flag, standard, colors, ensign, or any picture or representation of either, or of any part or parts of either, made of any substance or represented on any substance, of any size evidently purporting to be either of said flag, standard, colors, or ensign of the United States of America or a picture or a representation of either, upon which shall be shown the colors, the stars and the stripes, in any number of either thereof, or of any part or parts of either, by which the average person seeing the same without deliberation may believe the same to represent the flag, colors, standard, or ensign of the United States of America.

I'm surprised that so many know so much on displaying the American Flag when our U S Forces (Generals on down to recruits) display a patch, on their uniforms, of our flag in direct contradiction of Public Law 92 which does specify how our flag is to be displayed.

Army Regulation 670-1 states... "that when authorized for application to the proper uniform the American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so that “the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward. The appropriate replica for the right shoulder sleeve is identified as the ‘reverse side flag’."

This can be seen in Figures 28-135 and 28-136 on page 241 of Army Regulation 670-1 about wear of uniforms and insignia.

Do not speak about that which you do not know Smiler.
Yesterday, when my kids were getting ready for school, my 13 year old son came up the hall wearing a tee shirt with an American Flag across the front. He rarely wears that shirt, in fact the last time I remember him wearing it was on July 4th. He wore it with the knowledge of the events that happened on that day. I'm proud he was able to grasp that and I saw it as his way of either support or honor for his country, nothing more or nothing less.

I remember the Times Daily issuing a decal the week or two, around or about, after 9/11 of the American flag with the Statue of Liberty and also how it was next to impossible to find anything (i.e. car magnets, flags, lapel pins) with the American flag because they sold out so quickly.

What disturbs me more than the fact that an American child wants to wear a shirt is wrong against the flag code is I hate when you see American Flags are made in China. I think they should all be made here in the USA.

I believe if you check you will find that congress law overrides Army Regs...
The law does not prescribe how to display the flag on a military uniform.

I tried to attach a .pdf file with the entire section (105-225), but TD doesn't allow attachment of .pdf's.

Pub. L. 105-225, Sec. 2(a), Aug. 12, 1998, 112 Stat. 1498.
``Sec. 10. Modification of rules and customs by President

``Any rule or custom pertaining to the display of the flag of the United States of America, set forth herein, may be altered, modified, or repealed, or additional rules with respect thereto may be prescribed, by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, whenever he deems it to be appropriate or desirable; and any such alteration or additional rule shall be set forth in a proclamation.''.
(b) The analysis of chapter 1 of title 4, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new items:

``4. Pledge of allegiance to the flag; manner of delivery.
``5. Display and use of flag by civilians; codification of rules and customs; definition.
``6. Time and occasions for display.
``7. Position and manner of display.
``8. Respect for flag.
``9. Conduct during hoisting, lowering or passing of flag.
``10. Modification of rules and customs by President.''.

Public Law 92
