Need New MD

Dr. Brad Ginevan at the Tuscumbia Medical Mall. He hasn't ever NOT been able to get me in the same day if I'm sick. I'm not sure if he's taking new patients tho'. That's a big problem around here.

Is this Dr. in Colbert or Lauderdale Co.? I ask because I changed about 5 months ago and I am having the same problem.

I wish you luck. The one I use has a waiting list. I am so glad I got in years ago.
My only advice is to call a few offices and see how they handle your call.

The doctor is in Colbert County and not too far from the airport if that helps.

I am seriously considering doing what a couple of friends have done and find a 'regular' physician in Huntsville or Decatur and use the local 'doc in a box' for stuff like strep throat, etc. With the state of health care in this area, might not be a bad thing to do.

I don't think he is the one I have. Rest assured the "flower" is no better. Poor office help also. I will probably go to yet another one. Thanks anyways

From some of the non-public messages I have gotten, this seems to be a major problem around here. I don't mind the wait if I need to get in for something....what I do mind is being essentially abandoned when I need to see someone.

My son and i use Dr. Gillis, but have seen Ginevan.....their office has always been prompt about seeing us with no appointment if there's an emergency.

You are absolutely right. It seems if I were a young Dr. starting a newer practice I think I would make it a point to be more available and would certainly be sure I had competent office and medical staff.

Elgin Quik Med is okay for minor health issues.I have an appt. with a Dr. in Greenhill that is coming up soon.It took me several months to get an appt..I have heard good things about him so I was willing to wait.

With the "greying" of a lot of our physicians in this area, this problem will get much worse.

I would imagine that a 'young doctor' could come to this area and be booked solid within weeks, if not days.....so many people needing a physician but cannot get a private one.

That is fine, I am keeping an appointment tomorrow that I made several weeks ago.
If wake up on any given morning with a fever and sore throat I do not need to go to the emergeny room. I need to go to my GP and get worked in for treatment. I do not want a two seek or even a three day appointment. This is my point of contention.

I used Med Plus for years until we finally got a regular GP. We saw the same doctor so many times, they knew us on sight. It was almost like having a GP, just hated the waiting part. I have to have appointments, I can't sit waiting for hours with no idea of how long it will be.
Decatur has a huge medical community, perhaps you will have luck there. A one hour drive or less is not that bad.

I also need a recommendation for a GP in the Shoals area. I have aging parents who need a change as well as myself. Could someone drop me a line? Thanks!

Dr. Hollis in Killen is a very good G.P.

It's not just a problem up there guys. It's difficult to get in immediately down here too.
My internist used to be much easier to see. I can't get an appointment inside of a week when I call now. I must say, though, I can usually get my son in at his pediatrician on the same day. And he is a fantastic doctor! Constantly voted one of Birmingham's best.

My guess is the origins of the problem are quite complex and include mountains of paperwork for docs with fewer and fewer precious minutes with patients. I'm afraid it's going to get worse. Better start taking excellent care of yourselves!
