We have all heard it for over a year...dems screeching, wailing, destroying businesses and pillaging,  and demanding defunding or getting rid of the police! NOW, in yet another liberal twist...they attempt to blame it on Republicans!  Unreal how dems just LIE about everything and expect no one to call them on it!

************************************************

In a stunning contradiction of all known facts and evidence, a senior Biden administration official claimed Sunday that it’s Republicans who’ve defunded the police. White House advisor Cedric Richmond offered the false claim while being questioned by Fox News host Chris Wallace over President Joe Biden’s plan to ostensibly deal with the crime wave affecting cities across the country.

Republicans have pushed back on the plan because it doesn’t address any of the blue state/city policies believed to be responsible for the crime wave, including the decriminalization of low-level offenses, the elimination of bail, the automatic release of repeat felons and the defunding/demoralization of the police.

Confronted with this criticism on Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday,” Richmond made the audacious claim that these policies are the byproducts of Republican governance.

“Let’s talk about who defunded the police. When we were in Congress last year trying to pass an emergency relief plan for cities that were cash-strapped and laying off police and firefighters, it was the Republicans who objected to it,”  he said.

“And in fact, they didn’t get funding until the American Rescue Plan, which our plan allowed state and local governments to replenish their police departments and do the other things that are needed.”

He added, “So look, Republicans are very good at staying on talking points of who says defund the police, but the truth is they defunded the police, we funded crime intervention at a whole bunch of other things.”

Listen below to the remarkably false comments:

Everything Richmond said was either a lie or gross distortion.

Not mentioned by him or brought up by Wallace was the fact that Republicans rejected the Democrats’ spending proposal last year because of all of the unrelated Democrat goodies it’d contained.

Instead Republicans forged ahead with the CARES Act, which also provided funding to police department across the states. In fact, after it was signed into law by then-President Donald Trump, leftists took to complaining about cops benefiting from it.

“Using stimulus from the multi-trillion-dollar CARES Act, which passed in March 2020, the Department of Justice has awarded at least $845.8 million of emergency grants to state and local law enforcement officers across the U.S. and its colonized territories,” Rolling Stone magazine lamented at the time.

“The relief has gone to more than 1,800 of these agencies, ranging from $30,000 boosters for small-town cops to tens of millions of dollars for a single police department in states like Florida and Texas.”

In addition, the defunding, neutering and demoralization of the police has been conducted primarily on the state and local level thanks to Democrat politicians endorsing and supporting violent Black Lives Matter riots, prosecuting police officers for the supposed crime of fatally shooting violent suspects and cutting them out of their city budgets.

To Wallace’s credit, he pointed this out to Richmond.

“I think the point that Sen. Graham and some Republicans make, beyond just the question of funding, is that there has been an attack on the police as if they are part of the problem, especially from some Democrats,” he said.

“I also want to talk about the decline in prosecutions and have got some numbers here. According to one study, more than 90 percent of the charges against people protesting and rioting after George Floyd’s murder were dropped in most cities.”

He added, “In New York, the ban on cash bail has resulted in the majority of people who are arrested getting released. Doesn’t that send exactly the wrong signals both to police and to the criminals who are being arrested?”

Yes, it does.

Here’s how Butler County, Ohio Sheriff Richard Jones put it during a Fox News interview last fall: “Police are under attack. They’re allowed to go home. These politicians are putting police out there as targets, where they can have projectiles thrown at them, fireworks, professional fireworks shot at them. Knock their eyes out. Assault them.”

It’s Democrat prosecutors who’ve released violent BLM/Antifa rioters, it’s Democrat prosecutors who’ve tried to railroad the careers of good officers and it’s Democrat policies that have led to an epidemic of cops resigning from the force.

“Thousands of police officers nationwide have headed for the exits in the past year. A survey of almost 200 police departments indicated that retirements were up 45 percent and resignations rose by 18 percent in the year from April 2020 to April 2021 when compared with the previous 12 months,” The New York Times reported last week.

But instead of taking aim at any of the Democrats’ disastrous policies, Biden’s plan focuses entirely on going after guns.

“It’s time to ban assault weapons again. The president supports that, he’s asked Congress to do that and you have to look at access to guns when you talk about fighting violent crime,” Richmond argued during his discussion with Wallace.

He also denied the link between violent BLM/Antifa riots and the crime surge.

“Those that are rioting and looting, which the president has said from the beginning of the campaign that they should be held accountable, but that’s not causing a spike in murders, homicides, gun violence. That’s guns causing that increase,” he said.

Yet the actual facts suggest that the worst crime surges have been in cities where the violent rioters were welcomed by local politicians with open arms, particularly Minneapolis.

President Joe Biden’s failure to lead on crime is going to slam Democrats at the polls

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

In the ongoing battle between Republicans and Democrats over who can scare away regular Americans more, the Democrats are going all-in with their policies and rhetoric on violent crime. Left-wing Democrats have scared the hell out of regular Americans with their “defund the police” rhetoric and even more with actual cuts to funding for many big-city police departments and their refusal to prosecute many crimes.

After a multi-decade decline, crime rates are way up. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that voters are not happy about this. After months of largely ignoring the problem, President Joe Biden realized he had to address it. In essence, Biden’s response pins the entire violent crime rise on access to guns. His solutions focus almost exclusively on gun control. We should debate gun policies, but pretending gun access explains the rising crime rate is preposterous on its face. This is not going to end well for Democrats.

It’s hard to fathom now, but former President Bill Clinton, the greatest Democratic politician in recent memory, won over much of middle America in part with his “tough on crime” agenda. Putting 100,000 new cops on the street was a singular early Clinton administration achievement. Imagine today’s Democratic Party taking on that cause? Clinton’s crime policies blunted the winning Republican argument that Democrats were soft on crime. And it worked. Crime rates dropped to historically low levels, even while gun ownership continued to skyrocket.

The radical wing of the Democratic Party has undone all this political and substantive progress with their wacky “defund the police” movement. Even with the corporate media pulling as hard as they can to help sell the cause, there is no possibility of convincing the average American voter that defunding the police is anything but crazy.

This does not mean, of course, that there aren’t police reforms we should be debating. Videos of horrendous actions by individual officers drive home the point that there are bad cops out there. But bad apples aside, people know that police have tough jobs that most of us would not want to do. People also know that vilifying police as a class, getting rid of police, sharply reducing police funding and refusing to enforce basic laws are all going to cause a spike in crime. Yet these are precisely the policies and rhetoric coming out of the left wing of the Democratic Party. And surprise, crime rates are skyrocketing.

We had much higher crime rates in the 1960s and 1970s. During this period many of our major cities were flat-out dangerous, especially at night. With the bipartisan reform efforts of the 1980s and 1990s, that all went away. The result was huge investment and population growth. The radical left’s crime agenda puts all this at risk.

The solution to rising crime is not complicated. It’s the same formula that worked for Clinton: Enforce the law; fund enough police; and support honest police work. Those commonsense concepts are no longer acceptable to the radical left. Frontline police are the ones squeezed in this new environment. Their jobs are too dangerous, and their pay is too low, to put up with the demonization they are now facing. In Portland, Oregon, the epicenter of American crazy, the entire riot squad just resigned en masse after enduring a year of abuse from the city’s political leadership. Without support from our political leaders, this is what we can continue to expect.

Biden knows all this, but he doesn’t have the political will to take on the crazies in his own party, starting with his vice president. Kamala Harris asked her supporters to donate to the Minnesota Freedom Fund to provide bail money for those arrested in the George Floyd protests. Subsequent reporting by the Daily Caller showed that the Minnesota Freedom Fund bails out violent criminals and even serial domestic abusers. Instead of reversing her support for this radical cause, Harris has left her fundraising plea up for over a year now.

The left’s “defund the police” insanity is premised on racial injustice. Interestingly, though, members of affected minority communities do not share the generally wealthier and whiter radicals’ zeal to vilify and undercut law enforcement. Law-abiding people of all races who live in higher-crime neighborhoods want a strong police presence. Biden could have taken up their cause and pushed back on his party’s ascendant radical fringe. That sort of political courage would have been rewarded.

Pretending our crime spike is all about gun access, as the president is now doing, is the opposite of political leadership. Lawful gun ownership and sales do not lead to higher crime rates. Americans have had access to guns for decades. None of that changed recently. What changed is a failure in many cities to support the police and enforce the law.

The president missed a huge opportunity to show leadership and occupy the political center with his crime rollout this week. If Democrats lose large numbers of seats in 2022 and 2024, his punting on the crime issue will be a big reason why.

Well... Republicans voted against giving $350 billion to state police... Not one single Republican voted for it... not one single Democrat voted against it. ... I'd say, like it or not, Republicans defunded the police while railing about defunding the police.

Republicans have back stabbed the blue... but, that's what most Americans have come to expect from Republicans.

Democrats: Too bad their parents didn't believe in abortion.

Oh...they do believe in abortion. They have them like other people brush their teeth. It's B/C they can't seem to wrap their minds around. But you're right...when they give one baby a pass and let it live...it turns out to be as big an idiot as it's parent/parents.
