come on y'all, that's not so nice..if ANYone is offended, don't push it further just to aggravate them..if it's the way you 'talk', that's one thing, only you will answer for your idle words..but don't 'shove' it in mr bill's face, as you have made similar requests here..

God is THE major issue with some of us, please choose a lesser subject if you must poke fun..i know i will appreciate it too..thanks.

hey manda, i totally understand humor, usually right in the middle of it myself..but 'making light of' and 'joking around' about, is not the way God should be portrayed, and mr bill finds it offensive..put your mom's name there (not saying 'OMG' would/would not offend her, but on ANY subject), or joy's, or ANYone else, and ask yourself if you would still 'make light' and 'joke around' about it then..

besides that the Bible says not to offend our brother, it's just good manners not to do this on purpose..personally, i'll err on the side of not hurting him, rather than thinking he should know humor when he sees it, and just get over it....
just MY opinion, but hopefully food for thought..
OMG!!!!! hippie, bill is just looking for a grandstand. And it's a matter of perception. A gooberhead's idea of what OMG means might be "oh, my god", while obviously, for Joy it means "oh, my gosh!" or for someone else it may mean "oh, my golly".

It is what it is, unless you want to make it something else.

I just read your reason for your screen name - because of your innocent hippiedom during the 60's. And I believe you...now. BUT....

My interpretation of a hippie girl in 1968 is not of an innocent, gentle, virginal soul. I think of a long haired, disheveled, free sex (and lots of it with various and sundry hippie boys and/or girls), strung out on LSD or stoned, frolicking in the fields of the commune with no underwear and dirty feet. And, when you first came on here, I envisioned that person nearing fifty or so, having learned a few hard lessons along the way - struggling with the effects of drug addiction, STD remnants, and broken hearts-yearning for the good old "free love, pot smoke haze, and the good old days.

But, just like OMG, that was MY perception. Now I know that's not at all what you meant. Difference is, I think you should be hippiegirl or whatever else you want to post.

Peace, sister.

Vick,

No, that's not 1968HIPPIEGIRL, that's 'e'. Cool (Well, at least 6 out of 7 of your descriptives: my feet are clean! Wink)
HIPPIEGIRL...I know what you are saying, but remember that Bill, to use your phrase, shoved it in our face. At the time he wanted this posted, there was a thread with OMG in the title started by a distraught Christian lady who had just lost a friend at the hands of another friend. That's what I call an OMG moment & I don't mean gosh. I am just about certain she meant God, needed God and He answered.

Bound to come up, so...I knew how strongly I disagreed with Bill, but was willing to do him a favor while TD's working on their/his computer glitches.

I really think we all need to lighten up a little. If the choice is laugh or cry, I'll take laugh every time. I let myself get sucked in a few times and I don't belong there. I'm free and don't want to be bound again. That's how I feel when we start analyzing and criticizing one another. JMHO

It's also good to remember that this is not a Christian forum.
Hippie, if my mom made a post or told me she was offended by "OMG", I'd tell her she was being silly, and needed to find something else to focus on.

Who it came from, makes no mind. You and Bill too seem to think I carry some kind of grudge against him, when really- I don't. HOWEVER, a grudge has been made against me, by him. Such is life, I don't lose sleep over it. Nor do I waste my time holding one back on him. Smiler

People like you, find no fault in offending others that are different than you- EVERYDAY. You condemn people with your words, you don't find the good in people, and accept them for who they are. But, Omg, someone comes and tells you, that you are essentially being silly- It becomes a major crisis. Seriously, if something as SILLY as this offends you or anyone else, it's time to toughen up a bit.

It doesn't matter who the thread was by, I would have had the same reaction- despite what you would like to believe.

Now, maybe /that/ is food for thought. Smiler

Manda, i am stunned..when have i offended you/others?..where did i condemn someone?..show me, and i will certainly apologize..

you are very wrong about me not accepting people for who they are..the very essence of being a 'hippie', puts me in a simple life, where i try to get along with people, love their goodness (and being created in God's image, gives us all goodness), ignore their barbs, and pray that we will all know Jesus as our Lord and savior..

sometimes, my 'Jesus stuff' comes on strong, but sometimes God requires a strong Word..no apology for speaking His Truth as He directs me..the scriptures speak for themselves, and in that, i will firmly stand....

my posting here, simply meant that someone was offended by the 'OMG'..(personally, it is one of those things that i overlook, assuming they mean 'goodness', as i term it)..but even if it had been that they were offended by anything else, our kindness should STILL have us refrain from speaking about it, if it is THAT important to them..it's about compassion for our fellow man, even if we think the reasoning is 'silly'..

hey joy, i ABSOLUTELY agree, there are times when OMG is sincerely meant (as i copied my posting below)..i didn't realize mr bill's post was in reference to this one..i took it as a general reference to the careless use of God's name, which i believe is wrong..i also know it means several things, as i said..my reasoning for posting is as stated above to Manda..

i have always thought OMG to mean Oh My God, Oh My Gosh, or Goodness..somewhere in the back of my mind (i know, can't be that far), seems like i grew up hearing that 'Gosh' was an irreverant term for God..there are certainly times when the term OMG, is meant sincerely....i will be more careful in my choice of words, certainly no offense meant toward anyone, especially my God.

Ive been watching this post unfold and its pretty humorous. First off,..... oh my god could be anything.... some peoples god might be money or material things or even their work..... omg doesnt necessarily mean the creator of the universe. Its kinda like sin..... to one person, overeating might not be a sin, but to one it might be. Im refering to anything we do that harms our body, being a sin. So to say, saying omg is wrong,.... i cant say that, some people just have other gods. But to be, gosh, golly, geewiz are all by words of God and basically still using his name in vain. As far as what hippie said " sometimes, my 'Jesus stuff' comes on strong, but sometimes God requires a strong Word..no apology for speaking His Truth as He directs me..the scriptures speak for themselves" ... i'll let the scriptures speak to me, cause personally i dont believe God directs anyone to speak for him. Its all in the written word.

wow vick, what an eye-opener!..i've been this old mellow soul for so long, i'd forgotten all about the 'other' hippies from my generation (did any of them live thru all that?!)..and i'm sure 'they' were the ones who got all the media, just never thought about it before..

but there was a large group of us, who lived a simple life, tried to get along with everybody as best we could, and just loved being 'high on life'....that was, and still is ME.

ME, learning something from VICK!!!!..whatever is this world coming to??!!!..thanks vick.

O-Bama, to each his own..but not to misunderstand me..i do not speak FOR God, but He does direct me when He has me speak His Word, the scriptures..whether to enlighten someone to what His Word says,to remind someone,or perhaps confirm what He has already told someone..i don't question His motive..just as He unctions me to share, i do..nothing added to, or taken away from what is written, no new revelation..just called to be one of His witnesses in the earth..

not all see it that way, or 'hear' Him speak as such, but for me, that's how He does..

and i agree, the 'thing' that rules over us, is a 'god' to us..we all have work to do in those areas..
