My interpretation of a hippie girl in 1968 is not of an innocent, gentle, virginal soul. I think of a long haired, disheveled, free sex (and lots of it with various and sundry hippie boys and/or girls), strung out on LSD or stoned, frolicking in the fields of the commune with no underwear and dirty feet.

You condemn people with your words, you don't find the good in people, and accept them for who they are. But, Omg, someone comes and tells you, that you are essentially being silly- It becomes a major crisis. Seriously, if something as SILLY as this offends you or anyone else, it's time to toughen up a bit.
Ive been watching this post unfold and its pretty humorous. First off,..... oh my god could be anything.... some peoples god might be money or material things or even their work..... omg doesnt necessarily mean the creator of the universe. Its kinda like sin..... to one person, overeating might not be a sin, but to one it might be. Im refering to anything we do that harms our body, being a sin. So to say, saying omg is wrong,.... i cant say that, some people just have other gods. But to be, gosh, golly, geewiz are all by words of God and basically still using his name in vain. As far as what hippie said " sometimes, my 'Jesus stuff' comes on strong, but sometimes God requires a strong Word..no apology for speaking His Truth as He directs me..the scriptures speak for themselves" ... i'll let the scriptures speak to me, cause personally i dont believe God directs anyone to speak for him. Its all in the written word.quote:Originally posted by 1968HIPPIEGIRL:quote:People like you, find no fault in offending others that are different than you- EVERYDAY. Manda, i am stunned..when have i offended you/others?..where did i condemn someone?..show me, and i will certainly apologize..
you are very wrong about me not accepting people for who they are..the very essence of being a 'hippie', puts me in a simple life, where i try to get along with people, love their goodness (and being created in God's image, gives us goodness), ignore their barbs, and pray that all will know Jesus as their Lord and savior..

my posting here, simply meant that someone was offended by the OMG..if it had been that they were offended by anything else, our kindness should still have us refrain from speaking about it, if it is THAT important to them..it's about compassion for our fellow man, even if we think the reasoning is 'silly'..

OMG!!!!! hippie, bill is just looking for a grandstand. And it's a matter of perception. A gooberhead's idea of what OMG means might be "oh, my god", while obviously, for Joy it means "oh, my gosh!" or for someone else it may mean "oh, my golly".
It is what it is, unless you want to make it something else.
I just read your reason for your screen name - because of your innocent hippiedom during the 60's. And I believe you...now. BUT....
And, when you first came on here, I envisioned that person nearing fifty or so, having learned a few hard lessons along the way - struggling with the effects of drug addiction, STD remnants, and broken hearts-yearning for the good old "free love, pot smoke haze, and the good old days.
But, just like OMG, that was MY perception. Now I know that's not at all what you meant. Difference is, I think you should be hippiegirl or whatever else you want to post.
Peace, sister.

quote:wow vick, what an eye-opener!..i've been this old mellow soul for so long, i'd forgotten all about the 'other' hippies from my generation (did any of them live thru all that?!)..and i'm sure 'they' were the ones who got all the media, just never thought about it before..
but there was a large group of us, who lived a simple life, tried to get along with everybody as best we could, and just loved being 'high on life'....that was, and still is ME.
ME, learning something from VICK!!!!..whatever is this world coming to??!!!..thanks vick.
