I know. One young boy was as blond as my granddaughter and I figured he was a wannabe until he started doing the song (chant). It was like magic, suddenly you could see the cheekbones, eyes, etc just change and he looked, I'm sure, like his grandparents.

However, there were more old washed up flower children than anything else. The Native American songs, dances, ceremonies were awesome. The hangers on were not.
This is the thing: If you want to honor your ancestral heritage and wear clothing like they did, please pick a time when they were proud. Regal. Awe inspiring. Wear buckskins.

Do not dress like Lee Marvin in Cat Ballou. Loose the stovepipe hats, the cheap trade shirts, woven rugs from Walmart hanging out the back of your pants. Most of these guys (the fake looking ones, actually) were dressed like the "chiefs" you see in the back of the Time Life books on the West. After the tribes had been abused, rounded up on reservations and the only ones you saw pictures of were the drunks hanging around the trading post.

This was not a good era for the Native Americans. This is not a good time to be emulating in your choice of attire.

Had I been a Native American man, I would've, by God, been half naked with a loincloth, headdress in full battle regalia!
