I was watching the Daily Show last night, and the guest was President Jimmy Carter.

He had some good take on what's going on in N. Korea, and I learned more about that situation than I ever dreamed in the few minutes of that interview.

If you are interested in understanding what is going on with that bunch, I recommend watching that clip. The N. Korea part starts at 17:36 but to get there , you gotta endure some advertisements, but it is well worth the irritation .

I watched a documentary awhile back called Kim Jongilia on Netflix.   Really good documentary that sheds a lot of light on the atrocities the North Koreans go through.   I definitely suggest it to anyone who likes documentaries or just cares about things going on in the world.

There was a really good segment a few months ago on 60 Minutes, concerning the large prison camps and internment centers in place there in North korea.  It is country which is still caught in the 1950's, that has never gotten over the Korean Conflict and ruled by a government who is arrogant and vindictive. Not a very nice place to live.

Those people could've done something about it. No wait,

they took the guns from the people.

I can lead you to the well, but I can't make you drink the good water.  If you choose to drink from the muddy water, so be it.

You're the one trying to make an imaginary link appear.    You can try to make it seem as though a tyrranical government can only exist if the people are disarmed, but history shows that arguably the most famous tyrant of all time chose to arm his people even more so than they were before his reign.

I'll try and  make this as plain and simple as I can for you, since you seem to be historically challenged.  If a dictator arms people who follow him, that is called his army.  If you want to really understand what happens when the government decides to take away your guns, then do a little research on China, North Korea, Soviet Union, Guatemala, Uganda, Cambodia, Turkey, and yes Germany, just to name a few.  If you continue to spout off more ignorance, then I'll be forced to beat you down with facts.

True, Adolf ensured those of the party were able to buy guns and armed the Hitler Youth with .22  versions of the 7mm German military rifle.  He disarmed everyone else thru lists of owned firearms,  In France and the rest of the conquered nations, government lists of firearms were gotten from the conquered governments and their firearms seized.  Thus, the US and the UK had to fly in weapons to the underground to rearm them.  In the 1940s, the US passed its first law outlawing a national registry because of this.

Or...if they banned his motopooters...

While women and doctors can insist that ‘size doesn’t matter’ ad infinitum, some  guys still worry that they don’t measure up. In extreme cases, men can  even be afflicted with an anxiety disorder called Small P***s Syndrome.

One of the most common ways to overcompensate for this afliction is to have a "bad" motoscooter and talk a cool, wicked, "motoslange".

Well, I was hoping that there would be some intresting discussion on the progress Carter made with North Korea, and how Bush trashed the beginnings of normalization of relations with N Korea, and called the the 'Axis of Terror" which has led us to this "situation" at this time , but someone decided to turn this into some discussion about guns which was not even mentioned in the interview.

Idiots, Hitler didn't disarm just people who opposed him and conquered nations.  There were plenty of non Jews who opposed him.  Yet he gave them more lax regulations of owning firearms.  You can pretend there is some imaginary link there to further your fervor that someone is trying to take your guns, but that simply is not true.. and the causation between disarmament and conquering has no basis in reality either.   Sorry Seeweed if I have hijacked your thread.  It was not my intent.

SW, I thought that Carter, along with Clinton, was instrumental in helping North Korea develop their nuclear program, or am I missing something.  I thought Kim Jong Il had swore that the plans for the nulcear reactor was to only generate power, yet we see how now that has led to the development of a a probable nuclear device, one which has been publically displayed several times, the latest in February.

Some countries and their leadership can not be trusted with this technology as long as they continue to hate their neighbors and swear vengence against their enemies.

I don't think Jimmy's actions helped us in the long run, but perhaps I am mistaken.  How do you see it differently?

From what I have read, Kim Jong (Sr)  allowed inspectors into his country in 1992, under the leadership of Hans Blix, also noted to be involved with the Iraqi fiasco,. It was said at that time that NK had attempted to reprocess plutonium, and when the IAEA asked to see other "waste" sites,  NK balked and sent them home.

In 1993, NK was going to withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) unless the US gave into their demands which included grain and two light water reactors.

In 1994, President Clinto sent in Jimmy Carter, whom the NK leader called a "man of justice" to do a little bargaining as a private citizen. In June of 1994, Carter wooed the NK leader and dropped demands for the Un inspections, but asked for them to return their spent fuel rods.

In July of 1994m Clinton an "Aggreed Framework" with North Korea, and their new leader, Kim Jung Il. This agreement gave NK more nulcear power stations if they promised to give up pursuing a nulcear bomb. Clinton also promised them 500,000 metric tons of fuel oil annaually as well as grain, in a return for a promise to "freeze" their nuclear ambitions.

This food went to feed the NK Army, and did not go to the people of North Korea.

In 1997 Madeline Albright shrugged off concerns of North Korea bragging about the Framework Agreement as being one fo the "best things the Clinton administration has done to stop nuclear weapons in North Korea".  yeah right.

In 1998, NK launched their first three stage rockect, the Taepo Dong-1, capable of reaching Japan and nearly to Alaska.

In June of 2000, Japanese and Chinese were able to confrim that an underground uranium processing plant was located in Chuma, NK.

It looks to me like actions by Clinton and his envoy Jimmy Carter allowed this proliferation to take place under their watch and in many ways contributed to it.
