The 2010 UNA Summer Theatre series concludes this week with four performances of "Idiot's Delight," the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1936 play by Robert Sherwood that later became a classic Hollywood film starring Clark Gable, Norma Shearer, Edward Arnold, Charles Coburn and Burgess Meredith.

Performances of the show, directed by Will Stutts, are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15, through Saturday, July 17, and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18. Admission is $18 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets are available at the UNA athletic ticket office at Flowers Hall, or by calling 256-765-INFO.

Set in the Italian Alps not long before World War II, the play centers around a host of interesting characters who are prevented from leaving the country because of the impending war outbreak. Tensions are high as no one, including local authorities, knows which country will attack, or when. Meanwhile, the would-be travelers are detained at an Italian resort. While Sherwood's account of the start of World War II is fictional - being written three years before the actual outbreak of war - the play does give an excellent portrayal of Europe in the 1930s, when war was expected at any moment.

The cast of the UNA production combines theatre students, faculty, staff, alumni and theatre performers from the community. For full details, visit http://www.una.edu/summertheatre/idiots-delight.html.
