There is a large population of fer de lance in Panama... I was stationed in the Canal Zone for four years and the folk lore of the fer de lance is almost as varied as the ships that transit the canal... One is of a GI who was cutting grass when he was bit and died before he reached the hospital... Its venom was at the time (mid-1960s) considered the most lethal of all... I understand that anti venoms have since been developed, reducing the death rate to near zero...

The man bitten in Australia should have been a goner because of the remote area/how far from help he was when bitten, but everything that would have to happen to save him just fell into place. It was one of those things that wouldn't happen again in a million years as the saying goes.

Do they, or could they, make snake bite kits that would prevent death from the fer de lance until someone could get help?
