I've noticed that Dollar General is moving/relocating their Killen store to where Fred's was located just west of the Killen bridge and in Florence. Dollar General has also built a new Center Star location and has a store in Elgin as well as moving to a new Greenhill location. I can remember how my parents told me about how it used to be that several small separate stores located around each neighborhood before there were the "supermarket" larger grocery stores that moved in and put them out of business. While there are the huge grocery stores and WalMarts around Dollar General is opening many stores that are fairly close to each other and gladly they seem to be profiting from it and doing good.
Ahh shades of the past, in a way.
