The free public film series THE SCREENING ROOM: CLASSICS, CROWD-PLEASERS AND NEGLECTED GEMS will showcase what is widely considered the definitive film version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951) with a special holiday screening at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.

The critically acclaimed Charles Dickens adaptation – titled SCROOGE for its original British release – tells the classic Victorian-era tale of the spiritual redemption of cold-hearted skinflint Ebenezer Scrooge (played by the incomparable British character actor Alastair Sim), who encounters three strange specters on Christmas Eve.

Directed by Brian Desmond Hurst, the colorful Christmas Carol supporting cast features British character actors Kathleen Harrison, Mervyn Johns, Hermione Baddeley, Michael Hordern, George Cole, Miles Malleson, Ernest Thesiger and Patrick Macnee.

THE SCREENING ROOM is hosted by film historian and Pillar of Fire founder Terry Pace, who teaches English at the University of North Alabama. Screenings are free and open to the public.
