Here's a better idea....ship them back to Mexico.

A North Carolina sheriff is alarmed that the Biden administration is considering housing hundreds of unaccompanied migrant children at a shuttered private school in Greensboro and says it could increase crime there.

The Democratic Mayor of Greensboro, Nancy Vaughan, is reportedly open to the idea of welcoming unaccompanied minors from the border because she believes it would create jobs. Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson has not spoken to the mayor about the development but he is very concerned because he considers it a national security issue. He told Fox News that he’s “not totally happy with it.”

Johnson stated Monday that they “have a major problem here with the criminal element that crosses the border,” adding that he would like to see migrants properly vetted before allowing them into their community. He also said: “I feel like we have an open-door policy right now at the border and to me, this should not be a political issue, it’s a Homeland Security issue.”

The sheriff referred to a great increase in overdoses and seizures of narcotics due to illegal immigrants. He stated that a lot of crime is occurring everywhere due to the open border policies that are currently in place. The 100-acre American Hebrew Academy allegedly closed its doors in 2019 due to financial issues. Now, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is eyeing it as an “emergency influx shelter,” according to a statement issued by the city. The closed Jewish boarding school could house as many as 800 minors aged 12-18.

“On Tuesday, May 4, both City and County officials met with representatives from the US Department of Health and Human Services to conduct a site assessment of the American Hebrew Academy facility at 4334 Hobbs Rd,” the city stated on Thursday. “The facility is one of several sites across the country identified as unused property for potential use as a temporary influx housing for unaccompanied children.”

It is unclear who owns the school currently and whether the government is looking to use it by fiat. Originally the elite school was scheduled to reopen this year under a new name but that seems to no longer be the case.

The Biden administration evidently initiated the proposal according to city officials. The city and county did not approach the federal government to house the unaccompanied minors. Greensboro also stated that it will “solely” be up to HHS to determine what facilities will be used to house the children. Ownership of the school was not addressed.

HHS officials have visited the school at least twice in the past several weeks. Should they utilize the school, HHS would pay for medical, food, security, and other required services.

Melvin “Skip” Alston, who is the chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners, said last Thursday that HHS officials visited Greensboro last week to inspect the dormitory and classroom buildings at the American Hebrew Academy campus to determine if it would be suitable to house the minors.

Over 22,000 children as of May 2 were being overseen by HHS due to a lack of housing facilities on the border. At the end of March, the average stay at a facility for a minor was estimated at 35 days. The children reportedly receive health services, classroom education, case management, and family unification services.

“In the eyes of President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas, the only illegal aliens ICE should be deporting are potential terrorists and spies, or convicted aggravated felons,” stated Mark Morgan, the former acting commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “The Biden administration, through its actions and policies, has signaled that anyone here illegally that does not fit those categories is welcome to stay—despite the fact they have broken our laws simply by crossing the border illegally and in many cases have defied a court order calling for their removal.”

Currently, the Biden administration is spending in excess of $86 million on hotel rooms for approximately 80,000 migrants until next September. That comes to just about $352 a night.

According to Customs and Border Patrol data from April, more than 42,000 migrants evaded authorities at the border and over 177,000 were taken into custody.

HHS will announce its decision on whether it will use the Greensboro school or not sometime this summer.

“If selected, the American Hebrew Academy would remain unoccupied but available for use to ensure that children are not kept in border patrol stations for longer than 72 hours,” federal officials remarked on Friday
