LOL Start specializing in bankruptcy, you should get plenty of business.

That one quote might have taken the wind out of this whole thread!!!

LMAO!!!!!!

I can just see marypaulk calling businesses to see if they are selling truck nuts and wanting them moved out of town!!!!!

None of us are getting any younger, but thank you for the helpful insight on the aging process and how it relates to time.

I bet you are a really, really, old, porn-loving geezer.

Thanks for the info Marypaulk, I have got to check this store out.

LOL..heads up, folks! (not a pun, but considering the subject matter...)
I'm thinking Marypaulk may own this new store and her post is a way to advertise the place.
Curiousity = customers !!
I fail to see why a business should not be allowed to do business simply because of the proximity of churches. If the wares do offend the churchgoers' eyes, they need not ever enter.

Or is it that, deep, down inside, they know in their hearts that the church elders and ministers will patronize those places?

Hell, there's no reason why we shouldn't have lap dances in a building next to a church. If the faux holy don't like it, the move the god**** church!
I just had a crazy thought. I'll bet (or I would if gambling were legal) that Florence doesn't have a zoning restriction for this sort of business downtown. They probably never even thought of it. Who would dare put such a store right in the middle of our quaint little town? Of course with all the uproar from the little old ladies that frequent The Dish, the council will probably figure out a way to close the place down before long.

I'm gonna go ahead and call it.

Mobile St. is Florence's 'official' red light district.
I Remeber a few years ago ,a little place out on Hi-Way 43, after it opened with all the permits , codes and licenses to operate, Ronnie May had his Deputys at this place , that bussness had to shut down. Now Mr Ronnie May made a statement in the Times Daily, that he was scared someone traveling down the hill at a high rate speed and cause a wreck of people leaving this place, the speeders was the ones breaking the Law not the people at this bussness.

Now my point is ,if he has his Deputys at the well known drugs dealers they may have to shut down too !!

And no I did not or would not go to the place on 43 !
I agree with the comments about Spencers...any child can walk in that store and see breasts, penises, and rear ends on several shelves of their store. They shouldn't have that stuff there. Really. I don't agree with the comment someone left about Florence being a "quaint" little town...do you read the paper about all of the sex offenses and drug arrests in Florence? As far as the head shop on Mobile Street, let them stay and the Bible Thumpers can just stay out of it while they condemn everyone to Hell like they always do. I've always said that this is the buckle of the Bibile belt. This forum is not surprising at all to me. On a side note, it kills me to see that Florence has allowed a store like this to open, but won't let a bar or club open in a town with a major college smacked in the middle of town.

The point is that it is not appropriate for our downtown. Anyone that would argue that it is just wants to argue. I went into the store because I did not believe what I had heard and wanted to see it for myself. Unlike many of the people posting here I do not comment on things that I have no firsthand knowledge of. Go into the store and see if you would want to have your business located next to One Luv. Would you bring company or family to the restaurant next to it and not feel a bit embarrassed of your town? I don't care about what they sell. If it is legal then fine. That is not the issue. The issue is that the location is not appropriate and nice towns do not allow such stores in their downtown business district.

Actually, Pleasures in Huntsville is located on University Drive in a shopping center. A few of the other stores in that center include a diamond gallery, a golf shop, a couple of clothing stores, 3 restaurants (including Chilis) They have been there for years and do very well. But I think the reason they do so well is because they dont hide and act like they are doing something wrong. It is a very colorful brightly lit store that offers a variety of products for either couples wanting to spice things up or to help a lonely single gal out....Also on Memorial Parkway there is a store called Naughty and Spice.
Bill, you haven’t lived here in years. It’s really none of your business what goes on in this area. Why don’t you concentrate on your own town? From what I've read, California is one of the worse states in the US. Get your prayer warrior’s focused on good ole California & stay out of what goes on in the Shoals.

Marypaulk, are we really supposed to believe you went in that store “just to check it out”? Whoever the people were that told you about it, must have told you what great “toys” they have so you wanted to buy some.

If I go to another town/state to have dinner with friends/family, I don’t pay any attention to what’s next door to the restaurant. If I carry friends/family from out of town to a restaurant & they saw a place like this, they would probably be surprised because this area has the reputation of being “behind the times” & because nothing is allowed here that we might enjoy. Heaven forbid we have something that might give us some fun, like a nice bar, club, or casinos.

As far as Spencer’s being a place to see breasts, & rear ends, walk down any street here in the summertime or in any store, because with the way the ladies/girls dress, you’ll see that & more. As for the body part of a man that BoyHowdy mentioned, the men/boys around here tend to dress a little more conservatively. (Wonder why that is?)

BoyHowdy made a very good point about the sex offenses and drug arrests in Florence. Young girls/women are being raped & killed, babies/children are being abused & murdered, our children can buy drugs on the street & in our schools. Why aren’t you complaining about that instead of a store that isn’t hurting anyone? I own a few sex toys, should I be stoned to death in the street?

mandomama mentioned if a strip club came to Court St., would anyone have a problem with it. There’s been talk for a couple of years of a Hooters coming to Florence. There’s not much difference in a strip joint & Hooter’s & I didn’t see anyone complaining about that. If one were to come here, it wouldn’t be large enough to hold the men in this area, even the one’s from every church in town.
But of course they would be going there for the food. If a Hooters version for women came to town, I would be going there for the food. Wink
Sorry for the long rant, I was on a roll.

I think a Hooters would be a great idea. It would definitely do the business, and with UNA here, there would definitely not be a shortage of "worthy" employees. Wink

Actually it is not. I do not believe they sell hard core pornography with explicit covers in the front room of their store.

95% of porn is viewed online. If you are starting a crusade in our town, you need to focus your efforts on the internet service providers rather than some silly store down town that will most likely not stay in business for long anyway.

The intranets is where I get my porn. And it's free.

I was looking at community hospice of Alabama on the internet and could not believe my eyes.

I had a good laugh after the shock that people would actually do that.

Oh, self-righteous Florentines! Worried about a sex shop/head shop in close proximity to churches! Oh! The horrors!

Crap. I can't even turn around in this town without tripping over a flippin' church.

That's all well and good, though...The churches have a monopoly here. Fine. What about folks who don't want to go to church? I mean, seriously? If I had a nickel for every time I got asked since the day I moved here "have I found a church I'd like to attend?", I'd have a sock fulla nickels. I have no desire to attend church, and I'm not necessarily a heathen.
Sure, there's the argument that porn and alcohol and gambling can lead to "crimes of moral turpitude...", (A side-note: I applied for a job driving a garbage truck shortly after I moved back here-and the first question on the application asked "Have I ever been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude?" I actually had to go home and get online to look up just what the heck that meant.
I found out that it's an archaic term that covers pretty much everyting from littering to bombing. Well, of course I have never been convicted of anything of that nature. I follow the same rules everybody else has to, And THEN some.) But more often than not-all those things provide some momentary entertainment or diversion from all the 'up-tightedness' of the religious atmosphere around here. And some of ya could really use a belt and a smoke and somethin' to play with once in a while-cause from what I've seen-some of ya are wound up tighter'n a skeeter's tweeter.

"The devil' usually doesn't come looking for you. Usually ya gotta go looking for him. If you think the devil is hiding around every corner-you have paranoia issues-cause he's right out in the open every day- Ya ain't gonna get rid of him. Most of us just choose not to associate with him. Life is short, time is quick, and dead is dead. Enjoy the time you're here. Live and let live. Just sayin'.

Uh, oh! You just earned yourself a sermon from Bro. Bill, the forum preacher. Big Grin
Yeah, OK Info. I looked it up and it just had a laundry list of offenses. So many I couldn't remember them all to type here. I just never heard the term 'moral turpitude' before.

I figured I'd hafta spend a day perusing scriptures to find a vague explanation of it.

Usually if the question is on a job application-It just asks if you've been convicted of a crime, usually a felony, which I have not.

Bro Bill already has tried preaching to me on the religion forum. I'm not so sure he'd like to have his day ruined again. At least I would have learned the first time I got my head handed back to me. Big Grin
well its a good thing for this store if this town wants to be percieved as a big city like all these greedy business owners try to claim this is to justify the outrageous prices they charge for products. Big cities all over have sex shops. the churches here are just mad because people spend their money on that instead of putting the money in their offering plates

Well, you probably know why all those 'church couples' never make love standing up, don't you?

Because someone from their church might see their amateur video posted online and think that they were dancing! Heaven forbid they were ever caught DANCING!!!
mobile st. huh? that'd be great.. not that far from me. of course it's only be of limited use because, as we all know, the good people of our state congress have outlawed the sales of any of those horrible, evil wicked sex toys in the state ( thank god for tennessee and online ordering) so even if it is true, then the best we can hope for is some videos.. and if that's all it is, big deal.. it's easier to find it on the Net than to drive 5 miles to a store.

and to add my 2cents to the tally, i would love a hooters here.. best wings i've ever had, and excellent steamed oysters as well.
yes.. the scenery is great, but i'd go there if all the girls were in head to toe burlap sacks. but just not worth a drive to huntsville for.

to the preachy people. if the store offends thee, don't go in, but how do you have the right to tell me that *I* can't go in?
beside.. it just means more wings for the rest of us.
