So what’s wrong with posting this web site? I thought it was interesting. There are good police and a few bad police. Is it a terrible idea to see who the bad police are?
i don't think Mr Ray's statement makes him a 'bad officer'. i do remember the officers in my family saying they dreaded all the time, paperwork, and possibly court involved in a ticket, rather than hoping they'd write them every day.
i haven't lived in sheffield in many years, but the police dept always did a good job when we were there.

There's nothing wrong with posting a link to the badcop website. TheFox is just posting negative things about police in the area. Go read his previous posts. I like to read badcop news and the ones in Alabama are the most interesting. Thehippiegirl, I don't think his statement made him sound like a "bad officer" either. Although, I don't think he put much thought into that statement because if you read the other area Chiefs' remarks they all agree that writing tickets is a vital part of the job.

Umm, yeah, that article says nothing "bad" about any cop in Sheffield . . .
. . . Unless you consider "writing tickets" a bad thing.
For any police officers who may stumble across this stupid thread: I've got a boy that will soon begin driving on his own. Write the hell outta some tickets. Please.
Should have been on a site named "good news for law abiding citizens".
And it seems somebody's got an axe to grind with the acting Chief of Police. Whole bunch of cops besides Chief Ray quoted in the article.
Somebody must have got caught and had to pay a ticket. Hate it when that happens.

And??????? So what, they quoted what he said. He didn't say anything stupid or out of the ordinary. What's the big deal about it getting posted on this site?
I'm opposed to writing tickets for tickets sake and it certainly gives officers a lest than good reputation with the public they cite for offenses. That said, for the money they make and the risk they take, it just doesn't pay to be an office these days in such a small town as Sheffield or Tuscumbia. The bad thing about it is that the good officers out number the bad apples vastly yet we don't hear much about the good officers or what they do. Are all officers worthy of praise and meritorious in their conduct? Certainly not but then there are plenty that make far too little doing the job for the right reasons and are decent people.
I live in Sheffield and I know a lot of people who aren't proud of its police dept. It may have been pointed out as being funny. It was in bad cops, but I think there's much worse here. Some people, especially those with little education, let a little power go to their heads.
I wish some of these people would walk in some of these officers shoes for a few days. I know a lot of officers and no I am not a memeber of any PD dept. These officers can do 100,000 things right and make a simple mistake some times and the whole world wants to come down on them.
Kick'em when your down, I am sure they have had a plenty of that.

Ok this is tooooo freaking funny, that you would waste your time to post this. Chief Greg Ray is a great person and will be a great chief!!! and since you have mentioned education in a previous post, why dont you take you degree down to the sheffield police dept. and campare it to Chief Ray's. i bet he will make you feel small!

Amen brother! You can tell people that have something against a police officer, or has been given a ticket or something that they dont agree with, because they start blasting them and talking about they called their friend at city hall, if i am not mistaken then if that influence the decision of that officer, then that could be bad, and i am sure if that city official had read that, then he might not be as proud of that fact as some. The ones that is talking the most about what these officers do and dont do, could not even come close to understanding the job. but then again they think that they should be able to do whatever they want, speeding, running a stop sign, or anything that else that is considered illegal in the state of alabama, but until you pick up a 18 month old baby that is taking its last breath, and they die in your hands, then you just keep on talking about all the things that is wrong that a police officer does, until someone you know needs the police I bet they dont hesitate to call them.
