i saw a for sale sign in front of the building last week and haven't seen it open, but then again i'm at work during the day. if they are open, they need better hours. they need to be open when people are in the area which would be after 5:00pm and weekends.

southern bbq on huntsville road. i think one of the problems there was the hours. they were open when everybody was at
work and closed when they got off and on weekends. when you build in a neighborhood area, you should be open when people are in the area.



May sound rude but I am not sure the majority of people work in this neighborhood...don't hate me for saying truth.

That was really cute savinforarainyday! But Ms. Funk, there is not alot of office jobs in the Shoals, therefore not alot of 9-5 jobs. So just because you work 9-5 doesn't mean the majority of the people in this area that do work, work 9-5.

I've ate at every Southern BBQ in the area, but the food at the Huntsville Road located was absolutely the worse.

I have no idea if Southern Barbecue on Huntsville Road is open or closed, but they are still advertising on the Shoals Insider.

The one on Pine Street is still going strong and has much better food than the Muscle Shoals location--really great french fries.

Hate to hear about Hannelores. Really enjoyed eating there. I have never thought Southern BBQ was anything special.

I guess it's everyones taste but I find MS location to be better than the others. Russell just does something that's different. I didn't much care for the one on Huntsville Road. It just wasn't the same and looked like they threw the sandwich together.

Another Fiesta Mexicana? There'll be as many of those as there are churches and drug stores before long.

I always wondered which would outnumber which in Alabama.

Churches, Car Lots, Catfish places, BBQ joints or Mexican Restaurants.

i heard from a business next to el mazatlan that they were going into the bayou blue building but haven't seen any work going on.

haven't been to the rice box in a month or two, so i don't know how far along fiesta mexicana is coming along. for me it's rosie's or homemade mexican.

They used to have a weird sign on the window at Rice Box.

sweet peppers is a done deal in florence and will be open in 2011.

heard a small strip mall would be built somewhere between cox creek and shoal creek with 5 guys at one end and maybe a moe's southwest at the other end of the shopping center. (moe's would be awesome)

5 Guys is going to be across the street from where Fat Boys was. Haven't heard abt the others yet.

Went to 5 guys the other day after hearing so much great stuff...

Found Burgers were Average to just above average... Fries were large portions and very good...
I suggest going to 5 guys for the fries then head to Burger King or sonic for the burger....

There is anew place just north on the Tennessee line on 43 'Cowpen Grill'. I ate their Cheeseburger and fries last week.
The burger was excellent, the fries was the best I have had in a long time and there was plenty of them for two people.

i don't think this is going to happen. i heard el mazatlan spent one day at the bayou blue building and changed their mind.

when i talked to wade he said they are still looking. they wanted to do it in the parking lot of books a million but they didn't want to come off the land.

Yeah Sweet Peppers has been a deal for a while. You can see the ground breaking for the new mini mall. Maybe something will go in there besides 5 Guys so they can stay afloat. There are numerous mini malls around that are vacant.

I would like to see a Firehouse Subs in the Shoals.

I was in Florence a few months ago and was trying to think of a local place to eat that night. The only places anyone could think of was the box chain restaurants like Cracker Barrel or Chili's. The closest we could think of local at the time was Demos', which is franchised.

It would be nice if there was more local flavor in town. It just seems like the chain stores out number any locally owned restaurants.

Nash--I hope this will help you the next time you are in town The only chains that I ever visit around here are Texas Roadhouse and Rosie's (sometimes I will eat at Outback). There are LOTS of choices in the area. The ones that come to mind are (my faves are listed first):

*George's, Sheffield--best steak, best roquefort dressing, I could go on but I might drool on the keyboard
*Frank's, Tuscumbia--absolutely love this place
*New Orleans Transfer, Muscle Shoals--Yum Yum
*Ichiban, Sheffield--GREAT sushi
*Pizza Chef, Florence--best subs
*Southern BBQ, Sheffield--other locations but I've only been to Sheffield--best smoked chicken sandwich
*Sweet Magnolia, Florence--haven't been lucky enough to get over there yet but everyone I've talked to loves it
*Ricatoni's, Florence
*Sweet Basil, Florence
*Dish, Florence--may be lunch only
*Coldwater Cafe--several locations but I believe they close a little early
*Claunch Cafe, Spring Park--lunch only
*Dales, Florence--haven't eaten here in years due to my love of George's
*Marriott, Florence--has 360 Grille and the Bronzeback but neither really floats my boat
*Montague's (sp?), Florence--haven't tried it yet but sandwiches are their specialty.
*Casa Mexicana, Sheffield (other locations Muscle Shoals, Florence)--had to throw this one in there since I eat here almost weekly. Yes, the Shoals has tons of Mexican places but it isn't a chain so I had to include it

Try one of these the next time you are here! I know there are others but these are the ones that come to mind. Hope this helps.

I like to go to Singltons BBQ on Huntsville Rd. The food is good, local, and never all that crowded.

Is McGraws in downtown Florence still open.
