This is what Alabama state Senator Roger Bedford said concerning the Supreme Court's decision on Arizona's illegal immigration law and its effects on Alabama's law, "The ruling shows that once again the Republican Supermajority has wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayers money. They have unnecessarily threatened and endangered Alabama’s economy and our image. The Republican Supermajority chose to play to the fears as well as the racism of a small section of Alabama voters which make up, sadly, a huge voting block of the Republican primary." How clueless and incompetent can this idiot be? And what does it say about the voters in Franklin and Marion County who keep electing this jerk? What an absolute disgrace. No excuse in that garbage. I guess if you're against illegal immigration you're a racist according to Bedford. Most of Alabama woke up and elected Conservatives the last time around. I wish the Shoals area would join the rest of Alabama and throw out morons like this.

This was my email to Roger Bedford, "You told the Alabama Political Reporter and I quote, "The Republican Supermajority chose to play to the fears as well as the racism of a small section of Alabama voters which make up, sadly, a huge voting block of the Republican primary." Do you have any proof of any racism? Since when was obeying the law racist? And how is Alabama's law any different than the federal law which president Obama refuses to enforce? Your comments were out of line and calling people you disagree with racist is nothing new for members of your party. If you disagree with president Obama then you must be racist and if you're against illegal immigration then you must be racist. Right Mr. Bedford? This kind of garbage is old and uncalled for and I would have expected better from you.

Assuming the new districts hold up I would actually have to look to see if we in Tuscumbia would have Bedford. I saw someone on Facebook a few weeks ago say that downtown Florence said they didn't want him because they were jealous of all he had done for his district. That didn't make sense to me and neither does Bedford.

And to think Roger Bedford has been the Senate Finance Committee chairman every other year--with great influence over State budgets?  Talk about putting the fox in a hen house.  Everyone that re-elects this guy needs to be ashamed of themselves.  Needless to say, Alabama's finances are in shambles.  And, the State Senate is the most exclusive boy's club in the State--full of high egos and worthless individuals.

Don't just tell people on this forum about how you feel. We all need to tell our neighbors and co-workers how we feel about this and vote people like Bedford out. It just seems to me that most of the people who have simular mind sets in this country are all democrats. I have been a yellow dog democrat most of my life but not anymore. The democratic party has abondoned it's base for left leaning lebrals and their beliefs. Vote Obama out!

This is what Bedford told the Alabama Political Reporter in its entirety and I quote, “The ruling shows that once again the Republican Supermajority has wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayers money. They have unnecessarily threatened and endangered Alabama’s economy and our image." He went on to say, “Real leadership would have waited a few months, seen what the U.S. Supreme Court said is constitutional and what’s not and then we could have come with a rational plan,” said Bedford. He believes that, “If the Governor and the Republican Supermajority would have done what the Democrats asked them to do which was wait and let the Supreme Court decide, we would have saved a lot of money and not wasted so much time chasing rabbits down rabbit holes.”

Bedford further stated, “The Republican Supermajority chose to play to the fears as well as the racism of a small section of Alabama voters which make up, sadly, a huge voting block of the Republican primary.” Bedford says that Democrats stand for “meaningful reform but it needs to start with the President and the Congress enacting a new national policy.”

BREAKING NEWS! I actually got a response to my email from Mr. Bedford. This is what he just sent me less than 5 minutes ago and I quote, "Sadly the President and both US Senate and US House of Rep. have ignored and refused to solve the very serious problem of immigration in America. Is part of the GOP Img. Policy playing to the sad issue of racism , yes. The truth sometimes hurts but must be recognized to grow beyond it. No one is for illegal immigration including me and you ." He sent that from a cell phone and I can't make out what half of it means. He obviously didnt proofread it.

This was my response back to him, " Because the Federal government refuses to address the issue of immigration State governments had to. Then the Supreme Court ruled yesterday that it's Federal issue only, State governments cannot pass their own laws and I respect their decision but for you to say that the Republicans in Alabama passed immigration reform just to please the racist members of their electorate is baseless." Still waiting for a reply.
