FLORENCE -- The former manager of a local fast food restaurant is out of jail after being charged with taking more than $20,000 from the company, officials said.
Anna Madeline Creasy, 44, 809 Warren Ave., Tuscumbia, is charged with first-degree theft of property, according to Florence police.
Creasy was arrested Tuesday and released on bail of $5,000.
Florence police detective Sgt. Cliff Billingsley said Creasy is a former manager at Bojangles Restaurant on Cox Creek Parkway. He said she was arrested after a four-month investigation into allegations she took money from the business.
Billingsley said police were notified June 16 by officials with Bojangles headquarters.
Creasy has denied the allegations.
"While it is unfortunate that money appears to be missing, Anna Creasy is not responsible," said her attorney Jamy Poss, of Florence. "She was placed in charge of numerous managers-in-training, some of whom, among others, had access to cash and deposits.
"Anna was also the victim of poorly developed company policies which required her to sign off on their handling of the money without the safeguards necessary to protect her from wrongdoing by others. All these things will be fully developed at trial."
First-degree theft of property is a Class B felony and is punishable by two to 20 years if convicted.
