The glories of Communism and its precursor socialism.

North Korea suffers an extremely harvest

"About 40 percent of North Korea’s population is in urgent need of food aid after the country suffered its worst harvest in a decade, the United Nations said on Friday, even as its regime defied international sanctions in order to keep its nuclear weapons program.

The bad harvest left North Korea with a 1.36 million ton shortage of grain, forcing its government to reduce daily state rations to less than 11 ounces per person in January, compared with 380 grams a year earlier (380 grams equals 13.4 ounces, my note), the World Food Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization said in their joint assessment. Rations may decline further between July and September, when they are typically lower, the agencies said."

"The Cuban government announced Friday that it is launching widespread rationing of chicken, eggs, rice, beans, soap and other basic products in the face of a grave economic crisis.

Commerce Minister Betsy Díaz Velázquez told the state-run Cuban News Agency that various forms of rationing would be employed in order to deal with shortages of staple foods. She blamed the hardening of the U.S. trade embargo by the Trump administration. Economists give equal or greater blame to a plunge in aid from Venezuela, where the collapse of the state-run oil company has led to a nearly two-thirds cut in shipments of subsidized fuel that Cuba used for power and to earn hard currency on the open market."

Ten percent of Venezuela's population has left the country.  Most of the rest barely survive on government handouts, funds sent back from family outside Venezuela and foraging for food in garbage, stealing and slaughtering zoo animals.

Czarist Russia was a major exporter of wheat.  After Lenin ran the place, there was over 50 years of bad weather, that caused crop shortages (add planned famine to kill those who opposed the regime), according to the communist leadership.

Towards the end of the Soviet Union, there were annual food riots in the Rostov-on-Don area.  The Soviet army refrained from interferring as it was a major negative moral factor.  The KGM troops, usually used to put down internal disturbances, were too busy looking for food, themselves.  Now, the area is a major food producer.  They got rid of central planning and bought John Deere equipment.

Central planning of agriculture leads to starvation.  Bernie, Crazy Eyes Cortez, and other Democrat presidential candidates wish the government to be the only planner for healthcare.

Right now we live with the precursor to socialism due to FDR's borrowing of Mussolini's economic system, just like most of the world's economies. Whether the politician calls itself a Fascist, Democrat, Republican, or Democratic Socialist; it seems that the only differences are in the degree of government control of their crony capitalists and populations and some wear business suits and oxfords while others wear khaki and jackboots. Considering our national debt and the desire of politicians to use other peoples money to buy votes , we might be joining Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea in the near future.

Not one Republican cares one bit about National Debt since Trump was elected. Trump/Republicans have spent money or given away tax breaks to corporations like water and nobody cares. Didn't you get the memo? That's not an issue since Republicans took over.

And when have the republicans ever had the 60 votes in the Senate to change the trajectory of the National Debt? Ol'bamacare and LBJ's "War on Poverty" came about because Dems had a supermajority that Republicans never have attained since Reconstruction.

We have been on the path to oblivion for over five decades and the only time it slowed down was because the US had a tech monopoly that no longer exists. I know primitive minds will attribute that entirely to their god on earth deity, but the real reason occurred before him; the research that created the chipsets and internet that fueled the 90s came from the defense appropriations of another exalted deity.

Usually, US tax revenues go up, even with tax reductions.  Tax reductions usually result in significantly increased revenue.

For the last three significant tax reductions:

Tax revenue changes, before and after tax cuts (corrected for inflation).

For the eight years after JFK/LBJ cuts – increase of $522.2 billion.

For the eight years after Reagan tax cuts – increase of $2.944 trillion.

For the eight years after Bush tax cuts – increase of $4.788 trillion

Tax revenue for 2017 -- $3.32 trillion.  For 2018 -- $3.33 trillion.  Revenue was almost neutral for the last two years, despite a major tax reduction.  As the economy improves, tax revenue will significantly increase.  Its the spending that's out of control.

Economists predict 2035 is the hard break for the US, if spending isn't significantly under control.

Yes, and the predominate reason for future deficits is due to the preordained growth of "mandatory spending" (Entitlements); Defense, road construction, and other spending are called "discretionary" spending. I might note that on the day Trump took office, Trump was gifted a several $Trillion/decade future shortfall because of past promises.
