Does anyone remember the spoof that WQLT pulled years ago (could it be twenty years?!) about the [fictitious] Hiney Winery in Vina? I made reference to it over in the ENTERTAINMENT Forum in the “Three Word Story” Discussion – which is great, btw. If you haven’t read any of it you need to check it out and make a contribution to our little word game – it’s pretty funny.

I can remember barely knowing where Vina was but listening every day to the vivid descriptions and activities going on down there. I’m looking forward to seeing if anybody else remembers. There are a whole lot of you out there who lurk and don’t post. Here’s your chance to get on and supply some retro-info about the infamous Hiney Winery.

I found a couple of links . . .

I have not listened to QLT since the "Your Buddy Ron" days. In fact, I found some of my "Ban WQLT" bumper stickers from the lates '70's! If you will remember, RCK was on or had been on and then Bill Rogers started up the translators to bring rock back to the Shoals. We had KDF in Nashville and API in Birmingham. I am in my 5th year of satelitte radio kinda a hold out form the AOR stations of old.

I remember it, but I don't know when it was.

I can still remember part of the theme song for the winery.

"Hiney in the morning, Hiney in the evening...", something like that.

Remember Bubba Skinner on KDF? He was a hoot. His Halloween song was "The Love Monster Mash". A little racey, but funny.

Hiney in the morning, Hiney in the evening, Hiney at suppertime....
If I give you some Hiney, will you always be mine?

I really appreciate all your responses.

Now I know I am not crazy and that I didn’t just dream about the Hiney Winery!

The era of Real Rock Radio gave the world a lot, including the beginnings of "The Simpsons." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_in_Hell Phoenix still has the newspaper that carried that comic strip, "New Times." http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/ The big spoof commercial in Phoenix at the time was Damaged Pet Warehouse, the store for the pet lover with a heart. Defective pets included things like three eared rabbits, five legged dogs, snakes with arthritus, Insane cats that were vegetarians. And of course the Weekly special, colorblind Chameleons, or glow in the dark field mice, and the most popular, albino black cats.
Smiler I seem to recall him keeping me in line on one or two occasions as well. I stayed at their house alot when I was small & during the Summer. They lived across the street from the school. My sister & I spent alot of time in Vina HS's library & auditorium - she was the piano player & I was the singer. Unfortunately, we never could muster up an audience. We'd also occasionally talk the lunchroom ladies out of a cookie or two. Yum!

Thanks for sharing that story with me. He was and still is very special to me.
