Bachman, Cain, and Santorum did well.   Huntsman said nothing.  Romney stood his own.  I can't watch Pawlenty and yes Ron Paul is a little crazy.  Right now it looks like Romney/Bachman to me.  Perry might shake things up but Romney is going to be the better candidate for the independents.  Tea party credentials would come from a Bachman VP pick.

THERE IS SOMEONE IN THIS FORUM WHO GETS IT!!!!!!!!!!!

As a recovering Republican, I will vote for NONE of them with the exception of Ron Paul and maybe Johnson. You Limbaugh neocon repubs are going to nominate your latest version of reagan and the American people will not vote for them.

Republican strategy for winning in '12.

 1. Tax cuts for the rich.

 2. More tax cuts for the rich.

 3. Even more tax cuts for the rich

 4. And still more tax cuts for the rich.

 5. And if it's not enough, some more tax cuts for the rich.

Why in the world would anyone vote republican right now. There's not a single one of them has a clue how to run the economy.

Did you mean there's not a one of them that knows how to run the economy into the ground the way the democrats can?

Jennifer,

Name one economic policy Obama has implemented different from Bush. Healthcare aside.

Doesn't matter who the winner of the primary is, the winner of the election will be I'm Not Obama.  Heck, if I were Pawlenty, I'd change my name to that.  Its the only way he's got a chance.

Don't know about strategy, but the only sure way to end the recession in a couple of years is to drastically decrease government spending and reduce taxes, somewhat. Anything else, decade or so of misery.

With all due respect ventor I don't see how reducing govt. spending and lowering taxes will get us out of a recession. I'm for both generally but the only way I see out of this recession is to have a major purge of debt from a lot of institutions public and private. We have too many too big to fail banks that are really just zombies and public entities like Jefferson County that should simply be declared insolvent and reset. Extend and pretend might prolong the status quo but little more.

Silly Rabbit,

Cutting taxes on the rich will have no effect on ending the recession. We've had low taxes on the rich for 25 yeaRS.

The recession was started in 1999 when the repubs under Phil Graham (A name that should live in infamy) got rid of the Glass-Stegall act. This act deregulated wall street and set up the too big to fails. NONE of this has been addressed by either party, and the reason is that corporate money is flowing like cheap wine into BOTH parties election coffers. The Federal treserve has flooded the world markets with CHEAP money and touched off high inflation worldwide that is causing the collapse of entire economies, and soon our own.

There is only one person in the race who has the propor foresight to see this, Ron Paul, all the others are just beauty contestants.

Once more how did the partial repeal of Glass-Steagall cause the recession?  Not, just a conspiracy website's statement. But, the actual mechanics behind it.

And, the avatar's a duck, not a rabbit. You're handlers don't let you out much, do they!

AS to how cutting debt and taxes would end the recession.

Real world experience supports that the quickest way to get out of a recession is to cut taxes and cut government expenses. I've cited Coolidge's experience many times.

More dramatic is a recent study, by Harvard economists Alberto Alesina and Silvia Ardagna. They analyzed more than 100 debt-reduction efforts in 21 countries between 1970 and 2007. Results were a combination of spending cuts and revenue reductions was more likely to result in debt reduction than a combination of spending cuts and revenue increases.

I know what the CBO says. However, continued deficits of $1.4 trillion are not sustainable. Outside investors will back off. Continuing to use the Fed will cause massive Zimbawe type inflation.  Real inflation hasn't hit the US, or most of the world yet!   Its cold turkey, or continue to inject the heroin.  Its your choice!  I'll survive and may even thrive.
