Subject: I was just thinking..you know what forums do to you...

It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then -- just to loosen up and be a part of the crowd.

Inevitably, though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.

I began to think alone -- "to relax," I told myself -- but I knew it wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.

That was when things began to sour at home. One evening I turned off the TV and asked my spouse about the meaning of life. He/she spent that night at mother's.

I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don't mix, but I couldn't help myself.

I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read Thoreau, Muir, Confucius and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, "What is it exactly that we are doing here?"

One day the boss called me in. He said, "Listen, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don't stop thinking on the job, you'll have to find another job."

This gave me a lot to think about. I came home early after my conversation with the boss. "Honey," I confessed, "I've been thinking..."

"I know you've been thinking," he/she said, "and I want a divorce!" "But Honey, surely it's not that serious." "It is serious," with lip aquiver.

"You think as much as college professors and college professors don't make any money, so if you keep on thinking, we won't have any money!"

"That's a faulty syllogism," I said impatiently.

Then there was explosion of tears of rage and frustration, but I was in no mood to deal with the emotional drama.

"I'm going to the library," I snarled as I stomped out the door.

I headed for the library, in the mood for some John Locke. I roared into the parking lot with NPR on the radio and ran up to the big glass doors.

They didn't open. The library was closed.

To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night.

Leaning on the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Emerson, a poster caught my eye, "Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?" it asked.

You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinkers Anonymous poster.

This is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker.

I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting.

I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking. I think the road to recovery is nearly complete for me.

Today I took the final step...I joined the Democratic Party.

With all due respect. When you think hard enough, and long enough, and follow it up with sound research, yo come to the obvious conclusion that BOTH parties suck. George W. Bush did more to destroy this republic than any president in my memory. (44 years). That said, Barry Sotero is continuing the same sellout policies.

I don't know why you feel the need to voice your respect to b50m when stating a position that only slightly alters hers. She may be a self proclaimed witch but she can only cast spells in her own mind. Nothing to fear! Razzer

That said, you are obviously varying from the party line and the propogandized views as espoused by the right wing indoctrination machine: Fox News, so maybe that necessitated the submissive line.

Don't worry you didn't stray TOO FAR! Although you did state that Bush had destroyed the republic, you went on to use one of the many slurs approved for FOXOPHILE use when referring to the current president.

Your membership in the Glenn Beck club probably is still intact!

Be careful though, the right wing witch of Waterloo and points North may run into him at a pharmacy somewhere and report you. Eeker

As bad as I would like a job in journalism (and since we all know Fixed News is not REALLY journalism) that is a question that will present a dilemma. If they were to offer me a job at graduation this June,(MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY) NO ROCK, this is your conscience speaking: NO AMOUNT OF MONEY IS WORTH THAT, yeah but IF they offered enough..............
MAN WOW, you got me on THAT post!!!!!!! Big Grin

Not sure I understand here. His name is/was Barry Soetero right?

Again, his name is/was Barry Soetero and I don't watch FOX, nor MSNBC, or most any other with the exception of the occasional looky loo at CNN.

i have personally viewed Glenn beck as a weirdo. That said, I saw a link to his series "The Puppetmaster" recently and watched with some amusement. He thinks George Soros is the boogey man. "Ever learning, but never able to come to the knowlege of the truth". Beck has some good ideas, but he is locked in the Democrats are bad, republicans are good mentality. That keeps him from seeing the real puppetmasters.

I'm sure that I'm on some government list already. When the roundup comes, I'll be in the first wave.

You do know that a lot of the policies that most people despised are being continued or even enhanced under the Obama admin.

Yep!! The new boss, looks like the old boss.

Oh, so true Ranger. By the time that song was released by The Who I had returned (thank God)from my senior trip courtsey of Uncle Sam. The more things change.....the more they stay the same.

Ranger, forgive me. I got carried away. It is a defense mechanism, I rarely on this forum see anything regarding President Obama that isn't either a Kenyan reference or racist slur. I apologize. Welcome to the forum.
