Henhouse, do you not understand that this guy was released by your government, based on either a complete lack of evidence or (more likely) some back room deal with our great allies, the Saudis? Do you see that this is evidence of why Gitmo doesn't work?

All we have done is make the world hate us more. Had we lawfully detained people, housed them in a place so that everyone could see they were being treated humanely, tried them based on actual evidence, and treated them consistently--regardless of their political connections--the only people who could have objected are the very extremists to whom we have now ceded the moral high ground.

Instead we have hidden them from view and held them in violation of treaties and conventions to which we have been party for decades. This guy was released, while the poor, unconnected small timers languish with little hope of ever being released.

Gitmo is everything we say we aren't.

I think instead of the German POW work camps in south Georgia, the released soldiers who chose to stay and build families, and the tourists who still arrive each summer to see where their grandfathers were held and to meet the people who showed them kindness. THAT'S how we led the world.

Those POW's wore uniforms, had allegiance to a country, fought as military units and did not hide in churches and schools to bomb us.
Terrorists are nothing but mindless thugs or bullies who pick on the weak and unprotected. We could call them animals and gas them, or call them saboteurs and line them up and shoot them, or call them fetuses and abort them.

Terrorists do not play by any rules. Why should the US put itself at a dis-advantage to be PC with the rest of the world? The rest of the world don't give a **** about us. This mindset is a weapon used by the terrorists. They want everyone else to play by the rules, their game plan works better that way.

This is not evidence that Gitmo doesn't work, it's proof that letting them out doesn't work. Case in point: We locked him up and he couldn't hurt us. We let him out and he's running an entire division of frickin' Al Qaeda.

Notice he was handed over to the Saudis for "rehabilitation", so it's also proof that rehabilitation doesn't work either.

Finally, it's proof that one more thing doesn't work: Your argument. You libs bend over backwards to protect and pacify monsters who would like nothing more than to behead you with a dull knife and video it for posterity, but you'll notice the terrorists don't respond by kissing you on the cheek and loving you forever (which seems to be what you want - to be loved by evil people).

No conventions or laws of warfare apply to these people, and that is by their choice. The US Constitution does not apply to them. It seems they have nothing to fall back on but the undying respect and love of liberals pacifist pansies who want to placate the bullies.

It's like that story where the dragon won't kill the people as long as they sacrifice a child once a year to him.
