Hi to my Forum Friends,

In a discussion begun by a Roman Catholic Friend, titled "Originally Posted By" -- he is still attempting to sell his belief in Purgatory and praying for the dead as being Biblical.  And, I continue to tell him that these traditions are found only in the Apocrypha -- and not in any of the 66 books of the Bible.

When he keeps copy/pasting his own post, over and over, declaring Purgatory and prayer for the dead to be Biblical -- instead of responding to serious questions regarding that post, I suggest that he is attempting to keep, "throwing it against the wall, hoping that something will stick."

He responds, "It's not about 'sticking on the wall.'  Your opinion is not of any importance on the matter, really, because you are not (Roman) Catholic and clearly do not understand."

Of course, we all know that the phrase, "Throw it against the wall and see if it sticks" -- is a way of saying, "Bring it before the group, let's discuss it, and see if what you say or believe has any merit."

But, my Friend tells me, "Your opinion is not of any importance on the matter. . ."

This tells me that he is not interested in the truth -- that he will believe only what he has been told to believe by his Roman Catholic superiors.  Okay.  But, that is not how I fly!   And, that is why I learn more in Bible Studies and Sunday School Classes -- than in a sermon.  In the Bible Studies and Sunday School classes -- we can raise questions, make comments, discuss issues, etc. -- while in a sermon, Protestant or Roman Catholic, all one can do is to sit and listen, like a sponge.

We have a fantastic Wednesday Bible Study in my neighborhood.  I wish some of you were here so that you could join in with us.  Week before last, we were discussing John 13 and I mentioned that, although Jesus' washing the feet of His apostles showed His true humility -- Jesus was not meek.  And, of course, a good discussion ensued.

But, the really funny thing about this, the ironic part -- is that when I went home from that Bible Study and checked my mail, my September 2012 issue of The Berean Call newsletter had arrived.  When I opened it, the lead article is titled "Jesus Gets Tough"  (http://www.thebereancall.org/c...-gets-tough-part-one) which opens with:

When writing or even thinking about the biblical Jesus, problems may arise.  One of them occurs when we focus on just one of His attributes and lose sight of His many others.  This can give us a distorted view of our Lord and Savior.  It’s also possible for us to not even consider a particular attribute of His, which likewise can distort our true understanding of His character as revealed in Scripture.  All of Christ’s attributes are related, and, of course, they are all perfect in every way.  Moreover, Jesus is “the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8).  He doesn’t change.  So, what's with this title -- "Jesus Gets Tough”?

Well, the title has to do primarily with our reaction when we read that Jesus acted or said something in a way that may startle us.  We're surprised because we may not have considered that particular characteristic of our Lord, although it is clearly presented in Scripture.

My point in all of this, is that studying the Bible, discussing the Bible, even with those with whom you disagree -- can help all of us grow and mature in our knowledge of God's Word and its eternal message of salvation for each of us.

And, this is why every Christian should have his/her own personal Bible in hand when attending a worship service (or mass), Bible study (or catechism), or whatever your church may call the studies.  Acts 17:11 tells us to test what we are being taught, by anyone -- against Scripture.   How can one test against Scripture -- if one does not have a Bible in hand?

Next, my Friend tells me, "First, we don't 'take' a Missal to church.  In the pews are books with the Scripture readings and hymns.  That's all.  As far as it being a distraction to read the Bible?  I didn't say that at all.  What I said was, we are at the service to LISTEN."

I have been a Christian believer in Baptist churches for about 25 years.  I attended the Roman Catholic church for about 20 years before that.  So, I guess I do have somewhat of a balanced view of both.  Maybe today Roman Catholics do not take Missals to mass; although I would bet if you open the purses of the women -- or look in the pockets of the men -- you will find small Missals there.   In my day, we did take our Missals to mass.  Matter of fact, I still have two of them and a rosary.  I keep them to remind me to thank God that I am now a "saved and sealed" Christian believer.

So, if today, the Roman Catholic church provides Missals, or whatever you call it now, in the pews -- that is good.   But, still, how do you test the teachings (Acts 17:11) of the teacher against Scripture, if you do not have a Bible with you?

But, my Friend, you do tell me, "What I said was, we are at the service to LISTEN."

So, you go to mass to sit there and be a "spiritual Sponge Bob."  Is that what you are saying?   Do not question nor test what the priest says -- just absorb it and believe it?   Let me refer you back to Acts 17:11 once again.

But, my Friend, if you, and our other Roman Catholic Friends, are happy in the Roman Catholic church -- I am happy for you.   My only prayer for all of you will be that you have received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior -- and that you have found your salvation, your eternal life, through Him and not through the Pope, a priest, or a church organization.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Billie, show me in the Bible where this is Biblical, I'll leave it because it's not a

misunderstanding, it's a hard core lie. Why don't you prove it by your bible

or your history books. There is no way you can prove it by way of history

because you can't change history.

It would be necessary to prove Jesus lying in the bible and you have attempted

that many times, however, who will agree with you that Jesus is a liar.

Jesus taught from the Old Testament, there was no New Testament so where

did the knowledge of  Purgatory come from? The books Jesus taught from

spoke of purgatory, not by name, as the whole bible doesn't have the words

trinity or your favorite silly word rapture either.

The reason we are so sucessful at interperting and understanding the Bible

is we have done this for 2000 years against your 20 years.

The first thing martin luther did was mutilate the bible physically and then

change the meaning of what he didn't like, so 400 years later you're still

in the dark. The the latin vulgate bible translation is your first shot at the

accuracy for it.

But it doesn't look like anything can help the person with a

deaf ear to the truth and a death wish for his soul.

Pastor Chuck Smith, the patriarch of Calvary Chapel, has once again disappointed Christians by handing out extra-biblical advice claiming that children are a liability and that Christians should use birth control.

"We are deeply disturbed by this latest gaffe by Pastor Chuck Smith. The Bible clearly teaches Christians that children are a blessing, a reward, a joy, and a gift. Grandchildren are a crown to the aged. The Bible nowhere mentions children as a liability," said Troy Newman, President of Pro-Life Nation. "Smith's thinking is of the kind that has given us eugenics, abortion, and other human rights abuses."

The statements came on the radio program "Pastor's Perspective," which aired Monday, April 30, 2012, after a caller named Sophia asked the following question: "I have a question in regards to Christians and contraception. Should we be engaged in taking contraception?"

Pastor Smith indeed recommended that Christians use contraception to control family size and went on to encourage artificial birth control because of the high cost of raising children and because they do not produce any financial benefit to the family.

In addition to advocating for artificial birth control, Smith's co-host, Don Stewart, espoused the false notion that the world is over populated and offended many Christians with strong convictions about birth control by openly mocking natural family planning methods. "Whatcha call people who use that? You call them 'parents' because that never seemed to work there." Smith stated:

You know it used to be that a lot of children were assets. A child coming into the home was an asset because it was an agrarian society and you all had your own farms and the more children, the more help you had on the farm, and all.

But, you know, as time when on and we became really a - no longer an agrarian society, but, you know, one that was really sort of dependent upon manufacturing, and so forth, children no longer became an asset, but they became a liability and I think that when you figure now how much it costs to raise a child through high school and all, a lot of people, you know, they just say, "Well, who needs them?" You know, because it does just cost a huge amount of money to clothe them and feed them and all when they're not really producing or are productive at bringing back into the family, you know, financial assets and so forth, and thus they are a liability, rather than an asset today.

Smith's answer reflected a Malthusian philosophy and utilitarianism, rather than Biblical Christianity. Malthusianism is a philosophy that advocates population control through artificial contraception as a preventative for poverty and environmental harm. Utilitarianismis a theory of pragmatic ethics that teaches things -- and people -- have value only as long as they are useful. Smith blends both philosophies by indicating that if children cannot contribute financially, then they become a liability whose birth should be prevented.

This is consistent with comments made by Smith on the same radio program on Feb 8, 2011, where he advocated for the abortion of conjoined twins.

The problem mr gray is that you are not the authority. You have opinions- same as everyone. You are not inthe position to critique the catholic church because you do not understand it. You think we are puppets of the Vatican- not so. You think your way is the only way- and that arrogance is very contrary to Jesus' ways. You should humble yourself and study the life of Jesus - and the bible in its ENTIRETY and perhaps you might understand one day

Hi VP,

Personally, I believe I have shown that I understand Roman Catholicism very well.  And, your only defense seem to be, "Well, you are wrong!  You don't understand us!"   Okay.

And, once more, Vic has shown that he cannot come up with a single original thought of his own -- as usual, all he is doing is posting a copy/paste of another old post.  It is obvious that his Roman Catholic apologetics is rapidly deteriorating -- from nil to less than nil.

As I wrote earlier, if you and Vic are happy in your Roman Catholic religion, God bless you.  I am not trying to persuade you to leave.  All I am doing is refuting false teachings when they are posted on the Religion Forum.  Otherwise, I have nothing to say about the Roman Catholic church, pro or con.

I do not go to Roman Catholic web sites and post; I do not go to atheist web sites and post; I do not go to cult or world religion web sites and post.   But, when one of you come on the Religion Forum, where I know many Christian believers, both mature and babes in Christ read, where many new seekers read -- I will refute you when you post a false teaching or a false doctrine which I know to be unBiblical.

But, in doing it I will not be nasty and call you names, as I have been called.  You will not see me calling any of you "liar" or "stupid" or "ignorant" -- as I have been called; frequently by Vic, and often by others.

I will refute you, but in a civil manner.   Now, you might accuse me of being nasty -- just because I show you, from the Bible, where your traditions, teachings, or doctrines are not Biblical.   Yet, that is not being nasty -- just truthful.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

You just wish they were unbiblical but you know they aren't and

If you have proof sola scriptura is biblical show me.

Being 2000 years removed from the truth you really don't know the difference

What you do is hide behind lies and insinuations you know are completely

false. This is just one of a few cowardly things that make you who you are.

And where are those single original thoughts of yours? You copy/paste just as others of us do sometimes. Only difference is we admit it, you don't. Who gave you the authority to say Vic's religion, or anyone's, is rapidly deteriorating?

You say all you're doing is refuting false teachings when they're posted on the Religion Forum.  Again, who gave you the authority to say what's false/what isn't?  If you can say what's false/what isn't, then anyone here can refute you when they think you post a false teaching or a false doctrine which is known to be unBiblical to those "believers, both mature and babes in Christ, where many new seekers read". Those readers see you exactly for the false prophet that some of us know you are. You said you have nothing otherwise to say about the Roman Catholic church, pro or con, but we all know that's a lie. You do it all the time & not just about the Catholic church, it's any of them.

You won't be nasty, call us names, or call anyone here a liar, stupid or ignorant? That's a lie in itself. Here's a post you made in which you had deleted, but not before I copied it.

And you had the nreve to say "God Bless" to her after the terrible things you had just said to Jenn!

Can you still say you've never called any of us a liar? There's been others too, but I'm not going to waste my time proving them to you bevcause you don't acknowledge your lies or admit your mistakes.

You say you show the people here [from the Bible] where their traditions, teachings, or doctrines are not Biblical., that it's not being nasty, it's just your form of "truthful". What you won't admit is that you are not the expert, God does not work for you. Just because you say it's not Biblical, doesn't make it so.

You refute in a civil manner, you don't get nasty? That is another one of your many lies. Pitiful!

[The last time I put Bill's post to Jenn on here, he reported me & had it deleted. You can look for the same thing to happen again. He doesn't like for anyone to prove just how nasty he can be]

Hi O,

You are right.  The Roman Catholic church has been around longer than the Baptist, or any other denominational church.  But, what about the real Christian church, the one begun by the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost 33 AD?  That was the pure non-denominational church

Denominations, whether of the Roman Catholic flavor or of the Protestant flavor -- were all founded by and established by MEN.

Jesus Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit, and no one else, started the Christian church -- and then, when men got involved -- it has been downhill from there.

Christian church, Jesus Christ 33 AD

Roman Catholic - Constantine, 312 AD

Founders of Other Religions and Churches:

http://www.adherents.com/misc/adh_founders.html

Lutherans - Martin Luther, 1517
Anabaptists - Zwingli, 1519
Church of England, Anglicanism - Henry VIII, 1534
Calvinism; Dutch Reformed - Calvin, 1536
Presbyterians - Knox, 1560
Puritans - Cartwright, 1570
Congregationalists - Brown, 1582
Baptists - John Smith, 1605
Episcopalians - Seabury, 1620
Quakers - Fox, 1654
Shakers - Ann Lee, 1741
Methodists - Wesley, 1744

But, at the Rapture, the only thing Christ will look for is -- are you, by the grace of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, a Christian believer?  He will not ask which Christian church you attended.  He will not ask if you are a liberal, conservative, or middle-of-the-road Christians believer.

He will not ask if you believe in His Millennial Kingdom, nor if you believe in the Rapture.  Of course, since you have just met Him face to face in the air -- because of the Rapture; it will be pretty difficult to tell Him you do not believe in the Rapture.

No, Jesus will not ask any of those questions.   He will merely ask if you are a true believer.  Of course, because He is God, He will already know the answer -- but, He will ask anyway.

And, if you say "no" or you are not sure you are really ready yet to commit to Him -- He will point you toward the door on the left.  And, if you can honestly say "yes" -- He will point you toward the door on the right.

It will all boil down to what one of my favorite Gospel songs tells us:

It's not what's over the door Of the church that you attend,
That makes you a child of God, And a heavenly citizen.
As the eyes of the Lord look this world o'er,

There’s just one thing He's lookin’ for
Can’t you see that’s what’s in your heart,

And not what's over the door.

So, O No, my Friend, it is not what's over the door, i.e., not which Christian church you attend that counts.  The only thing that will count is -- IS JESUS IN YOUR HEART?

If He is -- you are a winner!  If He is not -- you are a loser!   That's the way the ball bounces.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Denominations, whether of the Roman Catholic flavor or of the Protestant flavor -- were all founded by and established by MEN.

Jesus Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit, and no one else, started the Christian church -- and then, when men got involved -- it has been downhill from there.

But, at the Rapture, the only thing Christ will look for is -- are you, by the grace of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, a Christian believer?  He will not ask which Christian church you attended.  He will not ask if you are a liberal, conservative, or middle-of-the-road Christians believer.

Wait, does one of those cover when he contradicts what he said in another thread?

____________

It depends on the contradiction.  No need to point out a contradiction or even his own hypocrisy when they fall easily under one of his main topics.

<<<Smacks forehead>>> Duh  Catholics despise Bible --Bill loves Bible--Bible is restrictive to Catholics= Bill is restrictive to Catholics= Why Catholics hate Bill.

Invictus Constantine invented the Catholic and you latter day saints retrofitted your man church to  Acts 2 the book you despise. That makes for a good story but no one is buying it.

What in the world is the Catholic church going to Pope us with next?

it's not to be worshipped.

You know the history of the world, the catholic church, rome and martin luther,

but you lie. Does that change anything? It never did and never will.
