Beginning with a disclaimer, I'm not, nor have ever been a Roman Catholic parishioner however I did attend a Catholic High School where I became more acquainted with the religion.

I do have a question regarding the Pope (current and former)

I am aware of the consideration, of the Roman Catholic Church with the position that the Pope, in the matters of interpreting and pronouncing Church dogma is considered infallible.  At least I believe that is correct, forgive me if that isn't and I can surely stand corrected.

With all the power and authority that has been given over to the position of the Pope (Peter's position) that currently is occupied by Pope Francis and formerly by Pope Benedict XVI who voluntarily resigned, something unprecedented and unheard of in the Roman Catholic Church, until then, what is the general opinion, of the Church, in general, about the current drama that appears to be boiling over between the two?

I know there appears to be disagreements regarding marriage and the priesthood but the current Pope, Francis, appears to be much more liberal of both existing Church doctrines and even into the Social realm and society and even being rumored to have made statements, to a close atheist friend, that would even challenge belief or acceptance of some of the most treasured Church Dogmas, not to mention Doctrines.

I'm just curious what ordinary Roman Catholic Christians think about all this and is it becoming a difficult problem from within the Church itself or is it mostly contained within the walls of the Vatican if you even know that answer or not?   Just curious.

Be as the Bereans ( Acts 17:11 )
