The only difference I see between Bulldog fighting and Ultimate Fighting is at least the dogs have a little sense...The Crowd mentally in my mind is the same...they want to see blood..
In Rome they called them Gladiators and they fought to the death...I wonder how long it will be before the personality of the crowd demands the same...

AMEN to that. This MMA phenomenon is yet another indicator of a deparaved and declining civilization!
I really wish people who are not involved with the sport, have never trained in the sport, and more so never COMPETED in the sport, would actually take the time to learn what it is about and what actually goes into an MMA fight before making an ignorant comparison to dog fighting. As an avid MMA fan and Jiu Jitsu/Muay Thai Kickboxing student, I am surrounded by fighters most of the time. Not so much since I moved to the Shoals. Trust me when I tell you MMA is way less brutal than football. I won't compare MMA to boxing because it deserves way more credit than that, but the idea of men (and women) challenging themselves physically and mentally and putting it all on the line for the sport is something that goes way beyond a "thirst for blood" mentality. The small shows are usually somebody out to make a buck. Alabama hasn't caught up on the times and put in place a commission to regulate these "amateur" fights but MMA as a whole is regulated. The UFC days of old were Human **** fights (if you will) but that time has long passed and a new era of fighters has emerged.
So please do some research before giving an uneducated opinion about something that you know nothing about.

Sorry! Fineazell 1
I would have swore what I have observed in those rings were people kicking the Sh-- out of each other...Blood Flying, crowds cheering...yep! it looked like a something I myself wouldn't define as sport....but ...I am sure everybody has their own difinition of sport...I know Michael Vick did...maybe we should use his difinition...I am sure it would allow you to do just about anything...

Utimate fighting in my difination is ...about just a plain ole...'lets agree to beat the crap out of each other until the other one either gives up or dies.."...Sounds civilized to me....

Please refer back to my very first sentence on the topic.
Lets talk about the difference between what Mr. Vic (assumming hes guilty) and MMA..The dogs that were being fought were most likely forced to fight. They were most likely pumped full of some drug to make them fight better, longer and more aggresively.
MMA fighters that are apart of any orginization are most likely drug tested. They also have the right to surrender to thier opponent at any time and never forced to go on. If the fighter looks as if hes not defending himself properly the fight is stopped...So dont go comparing dog fighting to MMA because they are nowhere near the same..One is a SPORT the other is CRUELTY TO ANIMALS...
Florence Watch...
You are correct there is a difference between the Bulldogs and MMA Fighters...

The Bulldogs had no choice...you yourself said they were forced to fight..the MMA Fighters I assume you mean they do it willingly...

Now! that you have pointed that out to me..I need to say I am sorry to the "BULLDOGS" I really didn't mean to insult them and compare them to the MMA fighters...
I visited a church earlier this summer where one of these type of fighters attends. It is a sport -- there is no comparison to dog fighting or even the gladiators. These guys put their whole self-- body, mind and soul -- into this. This guy was massively huge compared to me and I was intimidated to say the least, but when he spoke it was with a gentleness that caught me off guard. I would pay to see him perform/fight or whatever you want to call it. THere is something to the gentle giants...and a talent and dedication as well.

UFC strikers are ok to watch but all that floor grappling is more than a little gay.

Yeah. The “butterfly” guard and the “rear naked choke” could use a name overhaul.
The only people that would ever say that are the ones that have never experienced jiu jitsu. It is a very humbling experience to square up with a guy 50lbs lighter than you and somehow wind up with your elbow touching the back of your neck while all of the blood that is supposed to be going to your brain is stopped short by your own arm (which is choking you). Yup, it's gay, until you pass out.

Hey, I was just kidding with the words. Fact is, I've experienced exactly what you've described in defensive tactics. No, it's not gay. I don't want the Iceman coming after me.

Haha, nope, no worries, I'm no e-thug LOL. I just wish people wouldn't make ignorant comments about things they really know nothing about. And to compare a trained athlete to an abused dog is insulting. But I guess as with all forums I've been to, you have to deal with the ignorant ones to converse with the intelligent ones.

I think I've seen some really fat women married to some really skinny men who have experienced the same sensation during heterosexual matches.
You know, it really ticks me off when someone dogs a sport like MMA, calling it barbaric and comparing it to be more senseless than dog fighting, and then that good'un goes and watches football, rodeo, hockey, or, and get ready for this, BOXING. Just shut your mouth. Geez! MMA is a sport that is regulated, has rules, and is just as safe as any other contact sport. How many people have died lately or killed their family from being a MMA fighter? Don't get me wrong, I like every sport I just mentioned or eluded to but some people need to get rid of their double standards. If you don't like it and don't care to watch it, that's fine. But don't degrade it and compare the men who do it to be dumber than animals.
I would like to see a commission here in Alabama. I think part of the "gambling" bill included something resembling a commission but I'm not sure.
The fighter's safety has to be the number one concern. Pre fight medicals and post fight medical suspensions are in place (in Nevada and some other states) for a reason. They keep the fighter safe.
MMA (in the US) has had two known deaths in its history. The last one could have (should have) been prevented if a brain scan had been required. The young man that died (from a brain hemorrhage) had fought a few days prior and took some pretty hard shots to the head. In the following fight he took a few more and by the next day he had lost consciousness and eventually died. He was encouraged by the doctors and family not to fight so soon but because there isn't a strict commission in South Carolina he ignored them. This proved to be fatal.
I don't think his death should be used as a fight against MMA but a fight FOR a strict commission for the fighters.
Love it or Hate it, it is the fastest growing sport in America and it shows no sign of slowing down.
