Capitol Chaos: Union Upset Over Letter
By Jay Olstad

UNION GROVE - Local union members apologized to business owners Thursday after hearing union leadership threatened to boycott businesses.

The stunning development happened late Thursday afternoon at Village Dollar, where members with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees showed their support to businesses that were targeted.

It all started after Dawn Bobo, owner of Village Dollar in Union Grove, refused to put up a sign supporting AFSCME.

The public union is against Governor Scott Walker's plan to take away most collective bargaining rights for its members.

Bobo didn't want to take sides, fearing she would offend customers.

"I have customers from all walks of life, "she said. "In a tough economy you need everyone here."

But apparently that wasn't good enough for AFSCME Union Rep. Jim Parrett, who sent her a letter that reads in part:

"We'd ask that you reconsider taking a sign and stance to support public employees in this community. Failure to do so will leave us no choice but do a public boycott of your business."

"It rubbed me the wrong way," said customer John Charnon.

He and other customers drove out of their way to shop at Village Dollar Thursday. According to Bobo, business tripled because of it.

Even some local AFSCME union members called the threats "thuggish".

"The statements and threats made by Jim Parrett do not represent everyone in the local, we didn't support it," said Paul Baumester, a member of AFSCME, Local 3777.

He and several other union members shook hands with Bobo Thursday afternoon and apologized to her and other businesses for the threats. They claim they were never consulted about the letters.

Baumester says he's still against Governor Walker's budget proposals, but he believes the threats are exactly the wrong thing to do.

"Right when we think we might be making some headway here, we lose ground in the public eye," he said.

We made several attempts to contact Parrett by phone, but an operator said his voice mail box was full.

And now thanks to his letter, so is Bobo's dollar store, which now has a sign of its own in the window. It reads, "We support Union Grove, not bully tactics."

"I want them to have the rights they're entitled to, but they are not entitled to take mine away," said Bobo when talking about AFSCME.

The end of that letter:

Parrett wrote: "With that, we'd ask that you reconsider taking a sign and stance to support public employees in this community.

"Failure to do so will leave us no choice but do a public boycott of your business. And sorry, neutral means ‘no' to those who work for the largest employer in the area and are union members."
Once again the glaring HYPOCRISY of republicans is showing.
Don't believe in boycotts?????
How many boycotts have been started from the radical right wing and their counterparts on the religious side in the last few years.
SO, THIS IS A THUG TACTIC!
Well, just one more reason for the paraphrase:
RETHUGLITEACON!!!!!! Roll Eyes
Doesn't being such HYPOCRITES EVER register with you people????????? Confused

Paranoid schizophrenia is a sub-type of schizophrenia. In the United States, it is defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, DSM-IV code 295.30.[1] It is the most common type of schizophrenia.[2]

Paranoid schizophrenia is manifested primarily through impaired thought processes, in which the central focus is on distorted perceptions or paranoid behavior and thinking.[3] Delusions are in most cases grandiose or persecutory, or both.[4] Delusions may be multiple, but usually organized and coherent.[5]

This type of schizophrenia is dominated by relatively stable, often paranoid, delusions; this is accompanied by hallucinations, usually auditory, and perceptual disturbances.

Disturbances of affect, volition, speech, and catatonic symptoms, are not prominent in this branch of schizophrenia.[6]

Often, people who have their first episode of schizophrenia in their late teenage years lose out on a lot of important development.[7]

Easy to find. Use Google and put in "right wing boycott" and see whet you get:

Some of this content is not dealing with boycotts BY right wing elements, but enough of it is to answer your challenge to produce.

Thanks, Mr. Better:
I started to put in a list in my original post, but as evidenced by the responses from the resident rethugliteacons, I figured it would be a waste of time due to their being in denial about their own hypocrisy.
Is there some sort of mental illness that fits into this category?
Of course, as of now, FOXOPHELIA is not classified as an official mental illness, just a form of being indoctrinated with propoganda.

You really don't understand what Republicans stand for. You really need to read up on the party that you support and stop voting against your self-interests because of what some Tea Bagger nitwit tells you.

Hey just for kicks,

Let's do it the hard way just to make it easier for everyone to see your list and my list side by side. Talk about hypocrites, Obama ran on getting us out of war. Not only did he not get us out of war, he thru us into another without Congressional approval , unlike Bush. Plus he blames Republicans for this Budget crises. The budget that should have been done a year ago. But no the Democrates just discided to keep the can on down the road. Now the gov't might even shut down. You socialist democrates are pathetic with your name calling, your blameing others, when you are to blame. You guys go for it. Let's Roll !

Keep Marching to a Republican Victory,
Your Pal Skippy
Labor unions are workers who organized to present one massed voice to management concerning pay, benefits, and working conditions. Those who oppose unions think employment should be a one-sided deal in favor of the employer.

"But he signs the paycheck," you say. "Who is doing the work to make him money?" I say.

If all the employees disappeared, as in a strike, don't you think it would show him who is making his money for him? Shouldn't workers have a say in how the pie they baked for him is divided?

Those who oppose unions are making it easier to keep workers in poverty. That is the reason they were asking for community support. Workers support those businesses by spending their paychecks in those establishments. Higher union wages mean higher amounts spent in those stores. And the store owners are afraid some anti-union bigot will cause a stink?

Who was it that said "You're either for us, or you are with the terrorists." Scott Walker and the other Republican governors and their legislative cohorts, are intent on destroying the livelihood and prosperity of their own citizens. They have declared political war on their public employees. They are economic terrorists.

I don't know why people, especially employers who own businesses with employees, don't like unions. Don't they have a union of their own? Yes, they do. It's called the Chamber of Commerce. Look up that outfit and see how underhanded they are in their assault on workers' rights. Just for kicks, I'll give you the first one:

IF YOU HAVE:
• An eight hour workday
• A five day work week
• Paid sick days, vacation days, and holidays
• Family and medical leave
• Health, life, and disability insurance
• A pension
• Safe and healthy working conditions
• Proper job training
THEN THANK A UNION MEMBER

Otherwise, it's "work til you drop." Has your employer thanked you for adding to his prosperity today?

There are many more.

Orlando labor is all illegals. No illegals in unions. What you need is for the unions to take over the conventions business in Orlando!!!

Or, we could just let the market determine what the value of labor is and be done with it.

What happens when a grocery store has too many bananas? The price goes down!

What happens when a job market has too many unemployed workers looking for jobs? The price goes down!

And not just for those looking for work -- it affects employed workers, too. One day your boss comes and says "You know, there are 1000 people out there that would love to have your job for $2 per hour less than I'm paying you. So I'm cutting your pay $1.95 per hour. Your experience on the job is worth at least a nickel to me."

So, what do you do? Without a union contract, you suck it up and deal with it. Or, you can quit and look for something better, joining the millions of unemployed looking for that one job paying less than you make now.

That's how the market works out for you.

In your scenario the union says hell no and goes on strike. The company closes the door and moves on. Now you have 1,00 union people on unemployment. Nice work unions.

Well, the first priority of any business is to be profitable. Without profits there is no business. My comp went down during 08 & 09 because of the bad economy. We also laid off a bunch of people.

During economic expansions it works the other way as well. It's why you found job postings back in 04 & 05 offering burger flippers $10 an hour in Florence.

What union in my scenario? Please read the entire thing before thinking about whether you want to post a reply.

Reminds me of a rusted-out truck I saw in a field one time -- there might be something there, but it sure is heck ain't going anywhere.

Hey dipstick, you're saying this scenario couldn't happen with a union contract. I was telling what would happen with a union contract. Please read your own post before replying to my reply.
