Slammed? They have done this for years. Donna Brazile and Hillary ring a bell? Dems don't even try to hide their cheating and underhandedness any longer. Even with advanced knowledge of questions....a teleprompter and ear piece, China Joe still struggles. Most votes in history? Yeah....right.
President Joe Biden’s communications team has at times probed reporters to see what questions they plan on asking White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, prompting concerns among the press corps, three sources with knowledge of the matter told The Daily Beast.
Leaders of a White House Correspondents Association Zoom call last Friday advised print reporters not to reveal to the White House press team their questions in advance.
“While it’s a relief to see briefings return ... the press can't really do its job in the briefing room if the White House is picking and choosing the questions they want,” one White House correspondent said. “That's not really a free press at all.”
Spectator USA editor Amber Athey, who used to be a White House correspondent, told Fox News on Tuesday that "The Trump administration certainly never asked me for questions in advance, and I suspect there would have been universal outrage from reporters if they had done so."
Biden’s press team did not deny they had asked for questions, insisting they were attempting to have a better relationship with the press corps than the previous administration, according to The Daily Beast.
“Our goal is to make the daily briefing as useful and informative as possible for both reporters and the public,” a White House spokesperson said. “Part of meeting that objective means regularly engaging with the reporters ... to understand how the White House can be most helpful in getting them the information they need.”
DePauw University professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall told Fox the tactic could make sense, but what’s most important is “whether this process is being used to stage the briefings or simply to prepare for them."
