Thanks for the info g mom. (I don't think I copied that right, haven't had enough practice yet.)

ms. wonka, I didn't know Hackleburg had a jail, especially not big enough for 90?

Hackleburg is just a small place, the last time I was through there I think they had a Gas Station and one Store,  but the Community is all rural, but it has been 7 or 8 years since I went through there, they may have a big Place now. Wikipedia says that in the 2000 Census the Population was 1,527 but with all the Mexicans it may be a lot bigger.

There's not much left of Hackleburg except rubble and debris. They are now saying it was an EF5 that hit there. When you see it it isn't that hard to believe. So many good people lost there lives in these storms, it is heartbreaking.

There has been much more coverage of Hackleburg and Phil Campbell in the last day or so. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was gonna cover it as well. I imagine more will come out in the next few days as there is still close to 100 people missing.

Hackleburg couldn't possibly support a jail the size of the one mentioned. However, the Marion County jail is located in Hamilton, and there was significant damage done to that town.

I don't know where "ms. wonda" got her information from but she is wrong.

I have been working this weekend in the clean up effort.

Yesterday we were in the Phil Campbell area and this afternoon we went to Hackleburg.

The police station is destroyed but I don't even think they had a jail.

There wasn't any bars I saw anyway and me and other students from UNA were shoveling up debris from the street onto dump trucks.

There are still search and recovery efforts going on in some parts of the area that we didn't go into but I think if something like this would have happened somebody would have mentioned it and they would still be searching for survivors in the downtown area.

Well let me be "one of" if not "the first" to lay political differences aside with you Rocky and say thank you for your support in the clean up efforts.  Both Hackleburg and Phil Campbell are truely heartbreaking and mostly under reported stories that need local support.  I have an Aunt and Grandfather who dodged the EF5 thru Hackleburg by about 2 miles, so I am truely thankful and grateful to still have them around.  My family dodged an EF3 ourselves by about 3/4 mile.  I too went to Phil Campbell the morning after, came home and cooked food all day for the rescue squads after being turned away.  There are many still missing and probably some will never be found.  My kids have helped supply food and water to Phil Campbell.  This is truly sad.  Thank you for your help.

A group of us are going back down near Phil Campbell Thursday. I went to Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Phil Campbell and Hackleburg to day. It is hard to say where the most help is needed. We worked a rural area Sunday. It takes 50-60 able bodies to work a single house retrieving personal items and piling debris on the road edge. The houses are smeared at least a half mile or more. It is terrible.

Ok, I got this cleared up about the jail I thought was in Hackleburg. I talked to my sister yesterday to clear up a few points...she said Hackleburg had been hit and the jail had been hit killing 90 people. She forgot I know nothing about those areas and assumed I knew she meant the jail was near Hackleburg. She cleared it up for me...Hackleburg took a direct hit, the jail nearby was damaged and 90 people in the vicinity of Hackleburg were killed. The guard who had a broke back works at the Morgan County jail where she is a nurse, a tree fell on his car while driving to work.

Sorry for the misprint, after seeing everyone else's posts I was confused myself as to what she told me.
