Well? What Myths DO you see?

American Atheists is once again posting seasonal billboards, this time in Florida, Ohio and for a second year in a row on the billboard at the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel!

The Tunnel graphic will be replaced on December 11th with a call-to-action that will be revealed on FOX’s Huckabee with Mike Huckabee on December 10th.

The billboards are the next stage of the "You KNOW it's a MYTH" campaign we started last year. This year we are placing myths on the billboard and asking people what they see? The purpose is to encourage people to ask themselves why one god is different from gods they call myths. It's up to them to answer --

we are asking.

There is no effort here to convert theists into atheists, but there IS an attempt to get the church pew atheists to consider what they are doing. If they look at our billboard and see four myths, including Jesus, then why are they going to church and donating money? Why are they going through this ridiculous motion of pretending to believe in a myth, just to please other people?

Some atheists don't even know they are atheists, while others are fully aware but remain closeted. This is why we ask all church-goers to consider honestly their theological beliefs this season and ask if and why they are pretending to believe the unbelievable. It is our hope that these atheists will come out of the closet, come clean to their friends and families and start living an honest life of reason and rationality.

Many atheists celebrate some version of Christmas! There is nothing wrong with gifts, trees, singing and (most of all) family togetherness. None of this requires the pretense of a belief in a god. We believe the season should include honesty -- with oneself and loved ones.

Happy Holidays!

Love,
American Atheists

Hi all,

Our devout follower of the Religion of Nothing is awake again!  I have often heard that the ultimate measure of dumbness -- is to keep repeating the same thing -- hoping for a different result.

But, I am convinced that the greater measure of dumbness -- are the atheists who swear that God does NOT exist -- yet, they keep fighting against Him!  DUH!

Are you familiar with Don Quixote -- who kept fighting against windmills?  That is our atheist Friends -- fighting against the windmills created by their denial of God.  It is a war they lost thousands of years ago; but, they keep wanting to fight skirmish battles -- against an enemy they are convinced does not exist?  That calls for a double DUH!  DUH!

Oh, well, at least they are entertaining -- in their cute little Don Quixote costumes -- riding their little donkeys into battle, waving their swords of atheism.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

We atheists aren't fighting against religion. There is nothing there to fight. What we are trying to do is to get the dupes who demand the rest of us bow to there silly make believe god, to leave us alone and stop pushing politicians into making laws that restrict our lives. I'm tired of being constantly reminded what asinine idiots believers can be.

Hi Senior,

Let me make sure I understand where you are coming from.  You come on the Religion Forum -- and then do not want to hear what is most common on the Religion Forum -- GOD.   Isn't that sort of like walking into the river -- and then blaming the river because you get wet?

You say you are tired of being reminded about God.  But, yet you enter the Religion Forum.  Duh!  Either you are very confused -- or you are a masochist.  Or, the third possibility -- you really do want to know about God -- but, you do not want your atheist comrades to know about your secret desire.   Not a problem.  If you like, you and I can discuss God and Christianity in a Private Message on Dialog.  I promise your secret will be safe with me.

This I promise you, Senior.   If you can convince the TimesDaily to create one more Forum, an Atheist Forum -- I give you my sincere promise that I will not come there to bother you.   But, as long as you come into the Religion Forum -- my Friend, you are going to hear about God.

You cannot enter an Italian restaurant without hearing about pasta.  And, you cannot enter a Religion Forum without hearing about God.  So, if you do not like pasta; stay away from Italian restaurants.  And, if you do not like to hear about God -- try the Politics or Food Forums.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

No bill, that is not where he's "coming from". And you know darn well you'd be all over the TD if they provided a forum for atheists. You'd be writing, calling, complaining and crying, and you know darn well you'd be posting there. I'd bet money you post on atheist forums now.

Well, Well, Well, we finally have a manly atheist on this board, not the limp wristed dishrag type.

American atheists since 1963! Robustus, I am wiling to donate money to your cause! I will pay for one way airfare for you and Hitchens to fly to Iran and convert them from their "ultimate wickedness". One way because you won't need a return ticket.

Adit, there you go talking down to folk again. This time it appears you see other atheists as dummies.

that’s a large part of your problem. The atheists that walk among us are the average Joes. Your pack of idiots on the other hand are struck on yourself and the real atheists think you are lunatics.

Since you think the atheist world is made up of “dummies” why not scrawl that across the top “For dummie Atheist in the closet”?

Give the billboard money to some small church in the area dummie

Another sterling example of illiteracy from lexum.

And here comes our devout hat wearing follower of Religion trying to convince others that’s he’s what he says he is. Heaven help us from such an ultimate measure of dumbness-----which is to keep repeating the same thing—hoping to blind people to what he really is.

Which is the greater---the Atheist that are honest in their belief or one like you that pretends to be something they are not? Do you really believe the people here do not have the brains to see thru you? Yet, you keep fighting to convince us of such a lie. DUH!

Are you familiar with Jim & Tammy Baker----who kept fighting to convince people they were fighters for the souls of others? The total effect of their actions & conduct came tumbling down around them, just as it will you….it’s called Karma. That calls for a double DUH!  DUH!

Oh, well, at least they were entertaining -- in their cute little designer clothing – waving their Bibles into battle, waving their swords of righteousness, & judgment, all the time living a lie.

Bill, what’s wrong with an Atheist coming into a Religion forum? Religious people are forever preaching to them, telling them they’re going to Hell, that they need to get themselves right with God, knowing they don't believe in neither one. But they are treated like they're stupid for the way they believe. I can easily understand why they come here.

If you are here to convince the unbelievers that God does exist, why are they not allowed to dispute that claim? They have a right to give their opinion against it as you do to give your opinion for it.

If there were to be an Atheist Forum, you would be all over it. You would fight every way possible to convince the people that was reading that forum that Jesus/God does exist.

People here don't like you very much. Your falseness shows. If you do not like to hear about Atheism, or Christians belief's that's different from yours -- try the Politics or Food Forums.

Well, I don't see the post where AR said he wanted to go. However if atheists do want to go they have every right to do so. Now then, it's an atheist thing you say? LOL!! Well OK sport!

That one can derive happiness from a personal investment in a myth doesn't make it any less a myth
To atheists, theists are often like the older kids that haven't yet figured out there is no Santa Claus. When you tell them, they always go into denial, then anger, then sadness, then anger, etc. before eventually acceptance. I know this from experience. I was the kid breaking the Santa news to the others. lol

Really, you mean atheists aren't smart enough to "figure it out by themselves?" At least as far as Santa Claus I managed to put two and two together at a reasonably early age. Even at the nadir of my existence, I could never find enough "evidence"' that God did not exist.

I believe in a day of judgment and on that day many charlatans will have to answer for those they have turned away from God--think Jim Bakker. I also believe there will be many who will at least be asked why they were not prepared to defend their beliefs. Many of those posting on the Brooks Will Pray page fall into that category.

I was fortunate enough to put two & two together about ALL myths at a reasonably early age. I've seen your writing FV, you'll never find what you are actively avoiding to see. But more power to you though if you're satisfied with living on a myth. Some people can just stomach heavy amounts of dissonance.

That should work very well in iran. When are you leaving?

P.S. If a supposed Christian became an atheist on you word, he was never a Christian at all.

Iran? They have their own atheists. Alabama needs me to be right here!

(I suspect you might be in 2nd place on the religion forum loony podium, but I'll give you a chance)

LMAO!  X, I figured out Santa when I was 6.  We had a chimney (i could only pronounce it "chimbley") but I knew no one could come down it.

Santa is a perfect metaphor for God.  Do the right things, and you get rewarded.  He's watching, don't you know.  Santa is omnipresent, omniscient, loving but cruelly just, and responds to unilateral communication.  Sounds familiar, does it not?
