for auto repair.

There is a chain of auto repair shops doing business as "America's Service Station." From the link below, you can see that there have been scores of complaints against this business.

My daughter had noticed coolant loss and took her recently-acquired used Cadillac in to these people in Georgia. They told her she needed a new water pump, two new hoses and a complete $125.00 (!) cooling system flush--total cost over $600.00. She got a second opinion from a Goodyear store, which found nothing wrong except a hose clamp that had not been tightened sufficiently. They told her that the hoses on the car were brand new!

Read some from the link and I think you will decide that this outfit is not where you want to go for car repair or service. America's DISservice Station!

Beternu, in your foolhardy headlong rush to castigate this icon of vehicular maintainance you have once again proved your incompetence by failing to provide the identity of this supposed provider of substandard business practices. Your generously provided link appears to be nonexistant. Please be so kind as to respond with all due haste so that we, the people, can join you in your crusade against the reprehensible, irresponsible, reprobates who would exercise such underhanded tactics in their dealings with the poor misinformed masses who might depend on their services.
Most cooling system flush treatments are a waste of money. You can do it at home with a garden hose if you really think you need one. Also-avoid them because many flush treatments contain acids which, while dissolving any scale in your cooling system will also very nicely dissolve the brazed joints in radiators and heater cores-even brand new ones-causing them to leak like sieves. The acid-flush treatments also sometimes just loosen scale deposits and cause them to clog smaller water passages in the cylinder heads and radiator-blocking part of your cooling system completely. If you've always kept a 50/50 coolant mix in your system-you probably DON'T need it flushed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. All ethylene glycol based coolants contain rust/scale/corrosion inhibitors nowadays anyway.

Bad hoses are easy to spot (swollen/cracked/mushy/wet/collapsed) When the engine's cold-give 'em a squeeze (with the engine OFF fa chrissakes!) once inna while. A good hose should be round and have just a little give. try to move the clamps ya can reach, too. They shouldn't budge at all.

Always get a second opinion, like beternU's daughter did. There's some real jackwagons out there masquerading as mechanics.

The link is now in the initial post. And you and others can read what scores of others have to say about this "icon of vehicular maintanance." Welcome to the crusade, or if you choose to doubt the validity of what I am suggesting about this scam outfit, then support them by taking YOUR car in for work, notwithstanding the cascade of complaints against them by many who have been scammed by this scuzzy outfit.

If it was a new car you would expect new hoses. If it is a used car how did they know the hoses were new. Did the hoses have an expiration date on them?
Here's hoping she doesn't end up on the highway late at night by herself with a over heated engine.

They looked at the hoses and it was obvious to them that they had been very recently installed. A competent mechanic can do this. The seller of the car said he had had a good bit of work done on iot recently, but my daughter did not have the details of that. Goodyear have advised replacing the hoses if they had found them in bad shape--that is just good business. See the link now provided in the initial post and ask yourself whether you would do business with an outfit with this kind of complaint record.

As a matter of fact i pretty much don't give much credit to anything you say here!

Then go to the link I have now supplied in the original post and read what scores of others say about this disgraceful business. I don't care one whit what you think of me, but I am supposing that you just might be able to grasp the truth when it stares you in the face. I back my stuff up.

Shoot the messenger, why don't you? If you READ the links you will see that the Better Business Bureau, Ripoff Report, and a host of others have panned this outfit.

But seeing you don't like Beter, why don't you all just rush on down there and get your cars inspected. Then when they rip YOU off, you will have only yourselves to blame! Go on, throw your money away, that'll serve Beter right for trying to warn you!

Google any business name followed by "complaints" and you get similar results on ANY business.

The link posted proves nothing...every business has dissatisfied customers.
I wish now to bow to the wisdom of our resident crumudgeon and announce my complete agreement with his assessment of the bush league business he has so magnanimously called into question. I will now compliment the wordsmith by saying that his rapid response to each and all of his detractors is indeed impressive and furthermore his garnering of the protective services of my friend Ono!(for whom I have the utmost respect) is nothing short of remarkable. I look forward to your next outpouring of textual wizardry. May you have a good day, sir, and keep that razor sharp wit honed to perfection. Big Grin

Some would complain if you "hung them with a new rope."

And some would fall for scams if the Angel Gabriel appeared in person to warn against them. Wake up and smell the purulent, unethical
stink oozing from this shoddy business.

Go get over yourself.

I take that juvenile and silly response to be your flag of surrender on this topic. It certainly gives no substance to anything you have posted.

You are a fickle blue tick indeed. You first unite with my detractors, then offer praise for the worthiness of my post (having been more fully apprised of its substance by my belatedly provided link) and now you proffer a sentiment in my direction that clearly springs from the vernacular of the uncouth. If my hounds were that inconsistent in their performance, they would be headed for the pound.
I can not, in good faith, deny your accusation that I am fickle, for it is quite true. The truth ,my dear friend, is that I harbor a respect for you in some fashion, but I cannot resist a jab to provoke your response. I do enjoy the banter and really wish you no ill will. I realize that in itself is fickle but may the gods help me for I cannot help myself. Please accept my admonitions with a grain of salt as I do with yours and I hope I may prove to be a worthy adversary. Also, if my hounds acted in the manner I do the pound would be too good for them. I would shoot them on the spot. Big Grin

I will now retire for the evening and lick my wounds, or perhaps treat myself to some hot cornbread, and crowder peas with hamhock.

My words were not "archaic"; they were simply not part of your vocabulary. There are words--many of them--outside my vocabulary also, but they are not "archaic" simply because I do not know or use them--yet.

He doesn't frustrate me. I actually meant he needed to get over himself. I don't remember the last time I saw someone so insecure. For some reason he reminds me of Barney Fife-just pitiful and too full of himself to realize it. It's like he uses this forum to make himself feel important and "smart". Like I told him, we know what the big words mean, but who talks like that? And his ID-beternU? What, was smarternU taken? I'm surprised he didn't use that one. Sad sad little man. I have to admit though, I have thought what it would be like if he talked like he posted. His wife would ask him what he wants for dinner, and by the time he finished telling her the kitchen would be cleaned and she'd be in bed sound asleep.

The truly insecure people are those such as YOU, who make cheap, psychobabbling, ad hominem attacks when you can not deal with the substance of a topic. THAT is both insecurity and incompetence, so you have scored a double there, Jennifer.

I love that expression. An elderly gentlemen we know uses that expression a lot. Once I told him the same thing you just said and he told me what it meant to him. Some people focus on one thing and let the big things go. In other words, "they're HANGING you fool, and you're complaining about the rope"?

Beter...I know words that you'd hafta unhinge your head to get it around 'em.

Yes, they are 'archaic' because NOBODY, including stuffy Yale professors uses that kind of language anymore. I know because I've hung out in New Haven with a few of them and unless they're reading Shakespeare aloud-They use words that everybody else uses.

In my experience, people who speak using old English are trying very hard to hide the fact that they aren't really as educated as they'd like people to think they are. They're trying TOO hard, usually because maybe at one time they got dumped in favor of one of the aforementioned Yale professors (bigger paycheck, status, BMW, etc.) or maybe because they were once window-lickers or whatever.

I know a guy back home who used to tell everybody he was a teacher. Used lotsa fancy, hifalutin' words for horsecrap and was a general cramp in the ass to have a conversation with....Until it was discovered that he was actually a teacher's aide. Yup. A gofetchit and official snot-rag-carrier/crayon-reconstitutor.

Nice words though, but very unnecessary.

I notice since I've been down here that a lot of people I run into here and in person tend to try to make people think that they're JUST SO educated.

I'd believe 'em, too if it weren't for the pickup with the ladder racks on it that they just stepped out of wearing a tool belt and talkin' like they got half a pig stuck to the roof of their mouths.

As in: "Didihdidihdidihdidih....POWERK!"

Nobody really cares how many ancient words you know... Just-

Speak English or get the &#%& out of my country.

It might or might not be that "fare thee well" would grade out as archaic, but you are implying that my posts are loaded with archaic content, which is just not true. If you wish to contest that, then go find those allegedly archaic words of mine and show me where any reference source classifies them as archaic.

I am making no effort to impress anyone with my education. What is depressing is that so many on here find it more comfortable to level accusations of elitism against me than to attempt to answer my posts with substance and reason. Jennifer is a prime example--the Mother Superior of Ad Hominem Slurs.

Heh. *Forsooth! Ya bugger...* You're so caught up in your ancient English ya missed my point.

The CONTENT of your posts isn't archaic, the language you use is.

No one's accusing you of elitism. I'm guessing evryone pretty much knows better or has at least reached that conclusion. The elite don't have to show off-and wouldn't particularly if it made them sound like insufferable nimrods.

Find the archaic content? Hell....I challenge you to speak plain English or STFU. Smiler
