Yesterday I posted a thread showing that hydraulic fracturing was supported by taxpayer dollars. Did any of you see it? The only reason I can think of that the mods deleted it was that instead of just posting a link, I posted the entire AP story. Why is a link OK but not the text? Just in case, here it is again:

Co-winner of the "Likable Liberal" award who asks, "Can't we all get along?"

1 Corinthians 1:18-24 (CEV)
18 The message about the cross doesn't make any sense to lost people. But for those of us who are being saved, it is God's power at work.

Probably because posting a copy of the full text is a copyright violation. (That and AP has been notorious for suing websites that post even short snippets of the article as a teaser without paying them money, in spite of the fact that this is legally "fair use."  )

A link is just a sign telling your browser "go here for the original content."

It is not a copyright violation, because we are an AP affiliate. Although it is generally not a good idea  to copy/paste items that you do not own onto a website.

When I first started posting stories on this forum I only provided a link and a comment but then most would reply "why not just post the story" so we don't have to go off site to read your story. I then started posting the link and some of the story as sort of a teaser unless it's a really short article/ story then I will usually just post the whole thing. I've always figured since the link to the original story is there, there wasn't a problem. Now I'm not so sure.

I see many others do this too so I dunno. What do ya'll think? Is just a link sufficient?
