This morning as usual I got up fixed my morning coffee and read the Times Daily. As I turned to the region section I noticed an article titled Toddler rescued in woods. I looked for mugshots of the parents but saw none. I was very confused. You see fresh in my memory is an article from the region section dated May 31, 2008 titled Mother charged after toddler wanders off. Fresh in my memory because these people happen to be some of the best friends I've ever known. Yet these two articles are so different and so much the same. And apparently one child was lucky enough to stay with his parents while the other was ripped from the family who raised him his whole life. I cannot comprehend why one family was ripped apart by the Sheriff and the other he never spoke an unkind word. The little boy in todays article crossed a major highway and was found in the woods. The little boy in the May 31 article was picked up by an unidenified person at the end of his driveway. Stark differance if you ask me. But human error most definately. Those who hold positions in high authority can ruin someones character and more sad than that there life. I thank God both little boys are safe but I pray for the family who was wrongly judged and persecuted. And for the Mom whose mugshot sold papers for you. How many nights has she cried herself to sleep longing for her child. How many times has he longed for his mothers touch. And how many times has he wondered where his grandparents are. He will soon be back with his family and what a joyous day that will be. But how much damage is permanet for him and his family. Such sad irony the last quote in todays article "It turned out perfect all the way around."

You make some good points.

Con - the child in May had wandered off a second time. The mother knew the child was capable of opening doors, etc., and had taken no action to stop him/her.

Pro - Police officers and District Attorneys do not treat everyone equally. One has only to look at cases in other matters to see that. The difference in Lauderdale prosecution of Duwon Jones and the older Boyd brother is a prime example of that. The best defense in any case is a hotshot attorney and pressing the right buttons with the right people in power.

Actually, I don't see the "irony" in the quote -- I think the quote is very fitting. They were looking for a lost child and that lost child was found -- there is no irony in that -- that is perfection because for a child to be lost is a tragedy REGARDLESS and for that child to be found SAFE -- that is perfect.

I'm sorry that your opinion of the situation is clouding you from seeing the good in this. It appears that you are family or close to the previous situation and are kin to the mother that was charged. As Fire pointed out -- she had a history of not doing what was necessary to keep her child under watchful eye and that played into her charges that were filed. If that's the case -- someone should look into her...

If this father does this again -- which I doubt he will -- then I would say the same thing about these parents, but obviously there is no history of child endangerment or child neglect...

The first mother didn't know that the child could do that bc they lived on Hermitage Dr for over a year without instance of it and the other time the child had gotten away was when he was with his grandparents and the mother didn't know bc she was moving six counties away so that she could better herself and her child's life. I see the way that things are here and I honestly beleive that the charges against her will be dropped bc she is an EXCELLANT mother to that little boy and will have her day. This is BULLCRAP that she was done this way and this other family wasn't. And I do honestly believe that she will be suing every agency in Lauderdale Co who has contribuated to this rock thowing.
What history of child endangerment or neglect there was none. And as I stated before I am very glad both little boys are safe. But this can happen to anybody at anytime and the Mother of the first child was wrongly persecuted without a shadow of a doubt believe me I know from being on the inside looking out its easier to be on the outside looking in. No sugar coating it here.
The thought of any child being seperated from it's mother unnecessarily is agonizing. I don't know either party and I'm very thankful both children are ok. I know it is not my place to judge and I refrain from doing so but I did visit the first mother's my space when it was first posted here. If you saw that, you would be concerned about her child's safety even if you didn't know about the incident. It may be that this entire situation has been an eye opening experience and if she does get her child back, maybe she will be much more aware of the responsibilities and more appreciative of being a Mom.
